Question Remote Ignition Disconnect?

Morning everyone!

Is there a way to install a remote ignition disconnect...something that you could maybe hide in the glove box or center console? There has been a rash of car thefts lately...f150s being pretty popular to steal...It would be a key'd "thing."

I thought I remembered seeing this one time but I can't for the life of me find it anymore. Not sure if it was for a car alarm or just a stand alone installation either...

Definatley don't want the battery disconnect...that would wipe all the memories out of my radio and tranny shifting.

Thanks!

Cool

Although this doesn't kill the ignition, the end result is the same:

Oh I like this...I really really like this.

I'll see if I can get that figured out this weekend.

Thanks man for that reply! I wouldn't have thought to do that on my own.

Hey B-Man, did you install a Relay? Doesn't seem like you would have to since the switch I am looking at is 30A...

Just wanted to check so I don't do this wrong.

RatShack part# 275-712 is a 30a switch.

Thanks!

KingJR -

No, you don't need a relay. A 30 Amp rated switch (@12VDC) will work just fine...

BTW, a funny thing happened to me Friday. I was out of town for a week, and had set my switch to the "Off" location.

Well, I get back yesterday (late), drag my crap to my truck, get in.

Put radio face plate in, connect cell phone to charger, etc. Go to start the truck, no start of course.

Try again and then think, #$&@!@#, I'm tired and want to go home. Now I gotta' deal with this crap ?

Just getting ready to call on my cell when I remembered...

hahaha, I'm sure I'll do that at least a few times before I get the hang of it. We'll...I'm off to look at how to do this.

Thanks again for the idea.

Where I put my switch.

Hey everyone, Just got done installing. Works like a charm.

I put the switch behind my glove box on the right. There is a little cubby hole there and I thought that was a great place for it.

Now when I am out of town (can't park in garage, too big!!) I will come back to find my Truck still sitting there.

(oh and...I did clean up that dirt after I realized it was dirty in the picture. )

Cool

Did you wire it so it lights up ?

I like the spot, but I put my XM Receiver in there, so I had to hide mine in a different place...

I thought about it, but the switch would flash every time it sent power to the fuel pump...so instead of pulling a hot wire I said screw it (no pun intended) and just did not use that feature of the switch.

I tried to hide the wiring as much as possible, you really can't tell it's there, unless you know what you are looking for that is. But I figure by the time someone tries to steal the truck from my driveway overnight, I'll have the 9mil loaded and a few rounds fired off before they get to that point.

Now I just hope the connections don't vibrate off the switch. If they do I'll just solder them up.
