Question Sliding Tonneau

Does anyone know of any manufacturers besides Roll-N-Lock that make a sliding hard tonneau cover. I've seen the rolling ones that are made of fabric, but I'm looking for something solid, aluminum maybe.....kinda like with garage door type slats.

Any websites that you know of?

Roll N Lock, Retrax, and Pace Edwards are the only manufactureres I know of. Pace Edwards has a coupel different models. Google can find them all.

Websites:

RollNLock
Pace Edwards
Retrax

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Oh yeah - when last I checked, the Pace Edwards unit would not coexist peacefully with your Bed Extender. The Retrax definitely will, and not sure about the RollNLock.

I recall, when I bought my Roll-N-Lock it was the same company as one of the other two you mentioned. The RNL has aluminum rails underneath the fabric (much like a roll top desk). Won't take much weight though.

They are all very similar in design, but definitely not the same. I would say that the PE and RnL are the closest in terms of materials - both being an aluminum frame with a vinly laminate of some sort on top of it. The Retrax is considerably different - as it is a sheet of Lexan with aluminum reinforcing rods through it.

Pace Edwards

I had the Pace Edwards Roll-Top-Cover installed on my SuperCrew for about a year. I wasn't that impressed with the build quality and durability. I just replaced it with an Undercover. It's not a sliding tonneau, but it's much better IMHO.

I had both the Pace Edwards and the Roll & Lock on each of my two Rangers before I got a MAN's truck.

They look about the same but the Roll & Lock is MUCH better made. Closer tolerances, better materials, better locking, better instalation.

My P/E would unlock itself and roll up due to too much side-play.
In the winter it froze locked many times and I could not open my bed! The retracting spring eventually broke and it would not open all the way. Traded in the truck and the salesman was so impressed with the dry bed on a rainy day that he never tried to open it, heh.

The Roll & Lock installed with clamps instead of screws. More sideplay adjustability. More durable, more secure and nicer in general. One thing I didn't like as much is the extruded bar you must attach to the tailgate for locking the cover and gate. Not too bad though considering it stayed closed better and worked in the Winter better than the P/E.

Does anyone have experience with both the Roll-n-Lock and the Retrax covers? I'm trying to decide between the two, but I'm leaning towards the Retrax right now.

I have a Retrax on mine, and camped next to a guy with a Roll-n-Lock on his SuperDuty one time. We talked a bit back about them, and I got the impression that he had some issues with his cover - I think mainly stemming from improper installation. As far as looks goes - I personally prefer the Retrax.

Roll Tonneau cover

Just put on a Pace roll cover. I was dissapointed as the rail system is about 8 inches wide on each side of the box. This really eats into the load carrying area on a small box

roll n lock

I just had a roll n lock installed on a 03 screw and it will not allow the extender to flip properly. After issues with the installer he conceded on the matching cargo divider to make up for his lack of knowledge and poor install skills. After contacting roll n lock they are sending me a new set of hardware to make up for the damage to the screw heads caused by the installer. But on the bright side the cover is great.

The Retrax will not interfere with operation of the bed extender at all - just FYI.
