Bugdeflecter

Installed a Draw-Tight on my 03 Screw. 2 months now and its cracking the paint on the top of the grille. It popped into pre-drilled holes, but its rubs the grille when i close the hood

Any suggestions

Thanks

...same thing happened to me, it began to rub on the grille surround and removed some paint as well. I took that POS off and sold it before it caused anymore damage. All that Lund Interceptor did was waste my time and money.

My dad had the same problem with his '97 Expedition. After 10 years the bug deflector did a number on his grill surround. I had one and got rid of it. Also I could see mine shake at highway speed. Drove me nuts!

As of now, I do not trust any bug deflector. I'm better living with bugs on my windshield than permenant paint damage from any bug shield. I have the perfect solution to my problems : Wash my truck more often!

Geez - I am holding out

for a differenct response. Maybe someone will know of one that does not cause damage. I want one myself. In buggy country they really help and mine has fortuitously caught more than just bugs.

Does everyone out there have the same problem?

Any suggestions?

Tom

Had the same kind of issue with a Bugflecter II when I first go my SCrew, replaced it with a Lund Trident and have had no problems. It does clamp on, but using some small rubber pieces under the hood I have a well attached guard that does no damage to paint or grill surround.

Ford stock deflector

the stock Ford bug deflector does the same thing. I ordered it and paid the extra $ ($70 I think it was) on the theory that it would be a good fit and not have any issues.

Wrong. It was difficult to install, and even after putzing with it for hours, the damn thing doesn't provide adequate clearance. I have to slam the hood to cause the deflector to compress/bend enough to allow the hood to latch. And, it has abraded the paint away from the top of the grille surround. At least it's not visible with the hood closed.

Seems like maybe all the thing's good for is to cause the bugs to hit the windshield right in my line of sight

I've left it on, I guess it's a decorative item.

Put your Bugdeflectors back on, this is an easy fix. Buy a 4 ft. X 2 in. pack of Industrial Strength Velcro (sticky backed). Trim 2 pieces of the loop Velcro a little longer than the rub points, clean the area with alcohol and stick on. You don't need the hook part of the Velcro, but you can use it on the bottom of your rubber cup holder inserts. When they are out for a large drink you can stick them to the carpet, so they won't wind up under your feet. PS, I trimmed the corners off the Velcro so it doesn't have a tendency to lift.

Great Post!

I was thinking about that very solution and will go try it out.

It also seems to me that the fasteners used to attach the the Lund Intercepter to the hood are really crap. I am thinking about modifying those as well. It just hasn't made it to the top of the priority list yet.

I had the Bugflector II on my Exploder and now have one on my 01 S'crew. No problems with either. Doesn't flop around, and doesn't rub on anything. Guess I am just lucky!

Bikebob is a co-worker of mine down here in Tn, he has never had one on his 10 or so trucks he has had, he's got an 03 F250 now. He 's always telling me those deflectors are CRAP, I liked them until now with my paint coming off.
