I love my remote starter. I got mine from my Ford dealer. It is a DEI remote starter.

Are any of the systems that you guys have discussed STRICTLY a remote start system? It sounded like just about all of them had alarm functions of sorts.

Hey RP -

I was looking around and came upon this: Remote Start For Under $150

Might be worth a little investigation...

Good luck !!

Thanks for that link B-Man... I like that system and the price is right.

I'm pretty scared from an installation standpoint though...

I know all of you have basically told me to avoid putting it in myself at all costs but, were you all referring to Alarm/Remote start kits or just the remote start?

It just doesn't seem like it'd be all that difficult (especially with custom instructions (like from Crutchfield or similar)).

Rock,

Like I said in an earlier post, I have installed quite a few of these units....

http://www.12voltshop.com/proddetail...t=12&path=1,12

All I can say is...take your time, solder all connections and you'll be fine......I'm mechanical but certainly not a wiz....it took me 8 hours to put my first unit in my wifes dodge mini van .....6 hours to put my second one in my s'crew and about 3 hours to install my third one in my wifes new car..a Mazda......its really not that bad of an install........

Thanks again guys. I appreciate your input. I guess I'm going to sleep on this one a few more nights and wait and see where we shake out on buying this house. We close in less than two weeks and I know there are dozens of things that we haven't bought yet that we're going to need once we're in and settling.

Brad,

Hang up on the remote start. If it is anything like when I built this place 4 years ago, it is 2 years before you got play money again. I almost lived at the TechLine studio getting all the stuff picked out for the home office, browsing art.com for new art work that went with the new place, not to mention shopping for new furniture.

It takes awhile for it to all be over. You don't want to get caught spending money targeted for new house stuff on more mods for the truck, she will kill you

Yeah... I'm kind of catching that drift. LOL! I mentioned it to the wife the other day and, in not so many words, was asked what was I thinking? LOL...

With that being said, the remote start is on permanent hold.

Just don't get the key cut. Only have it programmed! Thats how mine works.

Bought CA-530 from KCautosounds with PRE-WIRES and instruction with photo!

I m going to install it myself , hopefully Monday if not then next weekend.

I was told it should be at least 2hours-3 hours.

I read the instruction 2/3 times so far to clear up understand and now i feel its going to be good install myself.

I have a module bypass ( that dont require to leave extra key in truck!). total to my door approx $206...I know i can find much cheaper online shop, e bay etc but i prefer ordered thru Travis cuz of insturction w photos, pre wires to make it a bit easy for me..

Thanks, as usual, guys. I really appreciate it.

My dealer charge me for $280.00 for installation of mine last Feb. and it's really helpful.
