Dead Battery,

I have a 2001 Screw. It looks like my battery has just died. Has any one else had a problem with the battery going dead?

Unhappy Dead Battery

I usually get about 36 - 40 months out of my standard issue Ford batteries, but they are not the greatest. You may want to go ahead and get a good aftermarket one, if your truck is out of warranty.

I had my 99 for 51 months before I traded it in with the original battery - and that was enduring the hottttttt Las Vegas summers. The climate out here can play havoc on car batteries...

Have you had it tested? Just about any Autozone or Checkers will check it for free...

Hmm, my 99 F-150 battery was pretty good IMHO. I drained it a couple times and had to jump start it. But, a little time on a charger and it was fine. Go have it checked at a local auto parts store.

Be forever thankful that your battery died a quiet death. I had an '87 F-150 and the original battery BLEW UP! What a mess. Sounded and felt like a bomb went off. Acid all over the engine.

I've turned in everything since then before the batteries had a chance to croak. Planning to keep this one for a long time, so I'm sure I'll experience a dead battery sooner or later.

There have been people on this board who have had batteries last over 6 years. Others have had batteries die in 2 years. Makes me think that the extremes in life depends on manufacturing quality.

I found the best prices at Wally mart, the batteries are made by Johnson Controls. They make the batteries for big UPS systems. Go to www.autobatteries.com

I have a 2001 Screw as well. My battery was replaced under warranty two weeks ago. It wasn't dead (yet) but was leaking acid which corroded my cables and battery tray. The dealer replaced it with an 84 month silver core battery, so that was a good deal.

Well I just replaced the original ford battery in my 1997 , so no complaints here about the lifespan of the ford batteries.

I replaced it with one from Sam's , $59.00 installed.

I used to have a 97 explorer with one of those huge ford batteries in it. I just sold the explorer 7 months ago but I had the original battery in it right up to when I sold it...then it bloated and my explorer voltage gage was declining to the zero mark right when I pulled in to have it changed.

I got lucky, no mess, no sitting on the side of the road.

But that one lasted five years...amazing how one can be so different from the other.
