To rebuild. I can rebuild one for a lot less than buying one.

Talk to your insurance company. They have first crack (pun intended) at wrecked vehicles. When they total a truck you want, you can buy it off of them.

If you get one with a damaged frame then it will never be as safe. Would you place your saftey or your families saftey after trying to save some money? I can understand taking parts off of one but not the whole thing unless it's not that badly damaged.

Might want to check what the laws are on Salvage titles in TN. Some states won't ever let the salvage title be changed to a clean title ever.
Most of the time, unless you buy it directly from the owner who skips the buy out of a total job with a car from the insurance company, the title is marked slavaged. This might be a concern when selling it down the raod.

I know every time I see a salvage title, I'm gone.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. AS far as safety, yes, some cars are not to be touched. However, even a truck with major sheet metal damage can be fixed for less money. I would never put myself or my family at risk. OYu have to be very selective when buying a vehicle like this.

You would be suprised how many of the cars list as new on car lots have been wrecked. I know of several cars that were sold locally as new that had previous damage before they were even titled.

Yes car dealers might have repaired new cars sometimes ( fell off the carrier ), but it is against the law for a dealer not to disclose this damage before the sale in IL.
There is no minimum amount of work that can be done in repairs on a new car without full disclosure. At least this is IL law, I don't know if it is a ferderal law. ??

Not to say a dealer might not try to pull a fast one, but if it rears it's ugly head, it can be cause for a reversal of the sale in IL, and the dealer can eat the millage charges in the time you owned it.
This has been since 1977 that the law was passed in IL.
