Power Mods Suggestions on 01' 5.4L
I have 01' Sup. Crew with a 5.4L all stock engine, and I'm wanting to do some mods for some noticable HP gains.
First I know its not a race car, Second I drive it every day, Third Its very dependable as it is. And finally I do not know anything about this type of engine. Any Suggestion !
What about putting 373 gears in it, would that be noticable ?

First things first, get a cat-back and the FIPK air filter kit. I think this is the best bang for your buck.
The superchip is a great upgrade but you would have to run the higher octane gas and that is an extra expense you may not want.
As far as gears go that would increase your performace but depending on what size tires you have now it may not be worth it. With larger tires it will help with the smaller (standard size) tires it will decrease your gas mileage too much and it sounds like you wouldn't want that.

#1 - Chip (or tuner), Catback and FIPK
Once the pocketbook recovers
#2 - Electric Fans & Underdrive Pullies
Gears are good anywhere along the line, if you get a chip as oppossed to the tuner you'll need a re-burn, tuner will cover it all.
This worked for me, your results may vary. That's all I got to say about that.

Troyer Performance Stage 1 kit for $1000 is a great place to start. Then e-fans.

I didn't quote a price. In fact I suggested that perhaps a check book would need to recover after an initial purchase such as this.
By the way Mike Troyer's kit is and excellent value and just what you need to get extra performance out of these trucks. He's great to work with. I would highly suggest you give him a call.

I have to agree with GearHead_1. Call Mike and get what you need. 540-862-9515.... Do it now...
Unfortunately when I modded my SCrew he did not have the new website up and I purchased several items individually from him.
I have his single program Superchip, filter kit, and I installed dual flowmasters on my truck. All mods were done over 2 years ago and as expected I have had no problems. The power increase and performance benefits by far off set the cost of these items. If he sold the under cover lids, I would have bought that from him too.

Second was the Mass Air Flow and Cold Air Induction kit and the Gibson exhaust. Definite improvement as well, but if I could do it over again I would leave the MAF out and spend the money elsewhere. From what Mike Troyer told me, it didn't add a whole lot of power with a non-modded engine.
Next I did the pulleys and electric fans. The pulleys are definitely noticeable with respect to how fast the engine revs and the fans had the same effect as well. Combined, they both helped with the gas mileage.
I next did the shift kit. In my opinion, the single best mod with respect to daily driveability. However, if I could do it again, I'd probably go with the Factory-Tech valve body.
Like many others here, Mike Troyer wasn't in the mode he is now for all of us to take advantage of. My stuff was purchased mostly from Summit Racing, although I did buy the SuperChip from Mike.
Anyway, here's the order I'd go with if I could do it again:
1. Valve body and tranny cooler. (Better driving and durability under any conditions)
2. Cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust. (Gotta' get her flowing before she makes more oomph)
3. Under-drive pulley set. (Get rid of parasitic losses)
4. Electric fans. (Get rid of parasitic losses)
5. Larger wheels and tires. (Looks 'mo better !!)
6. SuperChip or programmer. (Mike Troyer can steer you best here. However, I'd do the chip after you have made ALL your major changes. That way, Mike can set it up for your truck as it is and allow for all of the mods you have made, including any speedometer error from the larger wheels and tires. This will probably help you avoid the cost of a re-burn, which I ended up having to pay for because of the mods I did after the chip was burned)
Definitely talk with Mike. Tell him your budget, time frame and mechanical ability. He will steer you towards performance heaven.
Last but not least, stay active here. This board has more info about F-150 trucks than Ford has. Plus, lot's of nice folks who will help if asked. It don't get no better than this !!!
Oh yeah, don't be afraid to use the "Search" button here. You will be amazed at how much info is available...
As a side note, my gas mileage is slightly better than when my truck was stock. The power and driveability are WAAAY better than stock, so it has been a great experience for me.
Good luck and keep in touch.
Here's What I've done so far;
1. Flowmaster dumped - Cut the stock exhaust & replaced with a 2 chamber Flowmaster muffler and just dumped it down. "Not Loud"
2. Air Box Mod - Took the stock Air box and with a 1" hole bit, made the air box look like swiss cheese. Got the Idea from a guy on here. Still have paper filter "Felt a bit difference"
Not performance mod's but still mods
3. 24" Wiper blade "Nice Mod"
4. Acetone Badges "Custom Look"
5. Lighting wheels & Rims "Better Stance & Looks"
6. Undercover - Bed Cover "Better Looks & MPG imp."
Thanks for your Help & Suggestions Everyone
Next preformance mod is Valve body and Electric Fans.
Next Apperance Mod is Painting the plastic under hood to match color of truck.
