Baggin the Screw!!

Well, finally pestered the wife enough to LET me lower the SCrew (she makes more money than I do, so yes, I have to ask permission ). However, I don't want to lose any of my towing capacity so I can still put the wakeboard boat in the water.

1) What drop kits is everyone using (2/4 drop)??

2) Has anyone put airbags on the rear and what brand??

Thumbs up

Can't answer any of your questions, but I gotta see it when you get it done!

Rob - might be awhile. I am going to wait until I wear these tires out because I think they will be too tall once the truck is dropped - considering I got 63K out of the last set and the truck is at 90K now, I have a good 30K left out of them.

I just wanted to get some ideas on products to be looking at so I can start buying piece by piece.

Anyone??? Anyone????

Yea My wife makes more then me also. So when something new happens to the truck I just tell her "no honey that is a stock Ford part"
It took her almost a full month to even notice the Lighting tail lights

Best I can offer is I helped a friend install a Hotchkis' Total system on his 2x4 Screw. Kit comes with front springs, rear leafs (installs with the stock hangers and shackles), and front and rear swaybars. We also slapped on a set of Edelbrock IAS shocks at the same time. Think the kit results in more of a 1" front 3" rear drop. Anyway here's what the kit resulted in.

Positives:

-1- Major handling improvement. No body roll at all, and the truck corners almost as well as a PONY car.

-2- Kit maintains (according to the sales doc) 90% of the payload and towing capacilties without a need for bags.

-3- We removed the tube steps from his truck as it now sits low enough that they were no longer needed.

Negatives:

-1- Ride quality is quite a bit harsher.

-2- 'Total' kit was a bit pricey.

My friend has a Mastercraft XStar that he hauls, and with the Hotchkis kit installed, he hasn't noticed any bottoming of the suspenion or adverse towing characteristics. As a matter of fact he indicated that the truck seems to tow even better after the lowering kit was installed (obviously this is a purely subjective opinion). I've been considering installing this same setup on my truck, but am going to wait a while and see how his works out over a longer period of time.

Hope this helps.

By the way, you been in the water much lately? We've been every weekend for the past month. Even managed to get my little guy (6 years old) wakeboarding. And yes, Dad had to buy him his own personal board (Hyperlite Motive 119 with Spin bindings, cool board! ).

Mike - thanks for the info, I will check that kit out!!

Was on the lake yesterday - unfortunately not in my boat. Put the prop in the ground Memorial Day weekend, so it was in the shop this weekend getting realigned.

Hit the wakes a couple of times - water gets real choppy on the weekends on Lanier.

I'm only working two days this week, so I will be getting my boat back and hopefully get a few runs in before the holiday crowds get out there.

Have a great 4th!!!

You too!! Hope the lake treats ya right! That kinda sucks about your boat. Hope it didn't get hurt too bad hittin' ground. Since we've kinda run off topic here, I finally bought a tower for my boat, and if I get the time this week (which I will dang-nab-it!) I'll have it on for our trip to the lake this weekend. Have wanted one for a while but could never find one that met all my requirements. Can't wait to see if it will help my boarding (probably help me break my neck!).

Take care.

LightningCrew,

I have bags on the rear of my Screw and I'm only a few minutes from you if you would like to see them.

They helped a tremendous amount when towing.

Hey racer47, I looked at your gallery (by the way, nice truck!) and I think you and I have almost the same intake. I got mine off Ebay too. I did do one change to mine though that I was gonna recommend to you. I replaced the filter that came with the kit with a much better quality / more efficient / larger 9" Airaid filter (about $40). Now I use the Ebay filter for a day or so when I want to clean the other one. My thought process was: the bigger more efficient the filter, the more air to the engine, the bigger the improvement in performance.

Take care.
