Back Up Sensors

Anyone installed one of these? I remember someone doing some extensive research in recent months about these but a few searches have yeilded little of nothing.

I found a couple on ebay that look average but, I'd like to know what I'm getting before I do this (or if I do this).

I really don't 'need' the sensors but, it'd be a neat item to have as I'm a guru when it comes to gadgets.

Thanks for the help.

RP

Here you go RP . . .

I started this thread:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...=backup+sensor

I assembled quite a bit of information on this and posted it in the above thread. Others certainly contributed too.

I have still not purchased or installed one, but here is a good start.

Another couple of comments for you

These are the two systems that have my highest interest:
http://www.backingsafety.com/backupaidkit.htm
AND
http://store.autotoys.com/cgi-bin/wf...N/Catalog/1248

What I am interested in the most is:
Coverage in the back - including about 10" beyond the sides of my truck.

The number and the increments of the warning zones. Primarily the indicator that is the closest to my truck. I would like to know if I am within about 10 inches of actually hitting something.

And How I am warned. Just audio, or audio and video - which includes the display. Size of the display if you use one is everything. Where are you going to put it?

Installation is important too because our bloody bumpers have a slant from top to bottom and that angle may need to be considered. I think that the bumper location on the FX4s is high enough that it will be OK anyway - but I'm not positive about that.

Price for a high roller like you is ,of course, no object. And when I consider what one accident avoidence might save me, the price of the most expensive is within reach. That would be the 4 sensor Backing up Safely unit which is discussed in the thread I cited above ($300).

The link below has a video you can click on to see a demo on how it works whick is slow but pretty good. It is worth watching if you are considering one of these things.

Thanks THall. I'm going to sleep on this one a few nights but that is some great info.

Hi Mike

I've done no better. I'm still interested, but I still have not even purchased a backup sensor yet. I got a Warn XD9000I winch on a mount that fits into a receiver (front or back) and a HitchHand. Both were good deals and I got side tracked from the backup sensor project.

A number of us will look forward to hearing about this installation of yours when you get time.

Looking forward to it,

Tom
