Post Changed my trans. fluid/filter and.....

....all I can say is WOW!

My transmission has always felt kinda mushy on the shifts and every time I stopped kinda quick, it felt like something was "catching up" with me (2-1 downshift I guess). All of this has stopped now and the trans. is slick as a button. Should have done this a long time ago.

Question

What fluids did you use btw?

I have been wondering....What is the best oil to use in the 5.4?
And what did you change your Transmission fluid with?

savageyzf,
My mechanic used Mercon V. I know next to nothing about transmissions, but according to him this is some good stuff. As far as oil goes, I've always used my local Ford dealership for oil changes ($20 and every 6th is free).

RP,
Yes, he did a flush, replaced the tranny filter, and changed my fuel filter while he was under there.

I also just got my tranny serviced at ford. What a difference. I never felt the tranny had a problem, but after the service I can really feel an improvement. It just seems smoother. I don't know if I got a good price or not. But for 149.00 they flushed and replaced all the tranny fluid, and did a oil change.

That seems like a decent price from a dealer. One of our fleet mechanics where I work did mine for $103, including the fuel filter. The dealership wanted a little over $200.

The best way for me is to flush it with about 20qt of Mobil1 Synthetic ATF fluid. It cost a little more but this fluid do not get burnt like the regular ATF fluid. Just my .02 cent
