finally got XM

and yes...its the greatest thing ever.

my favorite channels are: 44, 46, 47, 66, ESPN140, and Comedy150. Oh, and I listened to a great program on E! (162) about John Holmes and the Wonderland murders while driving home on a 4 hour trip tonight.

anyways...those of you who dont have XM...stop wasting time.

I had a Pioneer MP3 in my old truck. Put in a single CD Pioneer deck in the wifes truck. Added XM to hers and realized I have no need for MP3 with XM.
I hear people moan about paying for the service, but they did that thirty years ago with cable TV.
I'm happy to pay to not have to listen to all those a**inine morning shows.

I keep saying repeatedly that the majority of folks out there are either spending $10 worth of time downloading mp3s to supplement the lack luster radio world or you're spending at least $10 on CDs/CDRs for entertainment purposes....

It's all in the view of where you spend your $10 per month. I'm spending mine on XM.

Like you all, I love XM and, honestly, NEVER listen to regular radio (with the exception of an occasional comedy morning show that I enjoy - Bob & Tom).

XM is worth it! Another

Talking XM RADIO

XM is probably the best Investment / Upgrade I have made to my truck.
I travel alot with my job and sometimes I use my truck.
Xm makes windshield time very bareable.

XM Radio

I just got XM radio about 2 weeks ago, and can't believe the difference in the reception. For the $10.00 a month, you can't beat the amount of selections you get. I was paying $15.00-18.00 for a CD, but now, I get a spectrum of music and talk for less than I was paying for one type of music. Definately worth the money, although I am a little dissappointed in where the unit was mounted, with the bracket supplied. I will probably have to make some adjustments.

We'll now that ya'll have it installed, let's hear the suggestions for brand of receiver and best place to locate it. Are there complete replacement systems for the Screws or are they additional units added in a slot somewhere?

I love my PIONEER set up..

The XM reciever is mounted totally out of sight and out of mind behind the passengers right foot kick panel.

I guess I don't understand how they work. If the receiver is mounted behind the kickplate, how do you control it? Remote? Wired to regular stereo?

My Delfi control unit, is mounted on a bracket that comes out under the SCrews climate controls and sits about 3 inches away from the dash to allow the cup holders and cigarette lighter cover to clear. I am just a little dissapointed that the unit wasn't mounted flush with the dash panel instead of protruding from it. It is easily within reach of the driver, although anyone else in the truck, needs to contort to be able to read the display screen since it is angled towards the driver. But with that said, I still didn't go wrong!

Since I just bought the truck, I was able to start from scratch. Alpine 9805 head unit with XM controls, and an Alpine XM receiver. Receiver mounts in the comaprtment behind the rear passenger seat, and a cable runs to the back of the head unit. All is controlled through it.

I have the Pioneer DEH-P7400. This particular head unit is 'XM' ready and has the ability to control the XM with the use of an IP BUS cable (which runs under the dash up to the head unit from behind the kick panel).

Ironically, the DEH-P7400, indeed, does have a wireless remote control but, it's only communicating with the stereo which, in turn, commands the XM brain box or reciever.

That make sense?

In recap, the DEH-P7400 controls the entire kit and kaboodle...

RockPick, is that space above the unit just an open storage bin now? My stock stereo takes up all that space. Am I right to assume that the Pioneer system came with some sort of bracket to create the bin above the unit since it did not need all the space?

Yes... that's a mounting kit. You'll see that on the majority of aftermarket head units. I can toss a pen or something like that... occasionally I'll toss the remote control in there... It's basically wasted space.

Ford uses 'almost' a double din size stock unit which almost always has free space.... some have mounted equilizers there and others have found double din aftermarket units that fit however; I haven't seen any of the stock sized (double din) units that really have a bunch of features.

Antenna?

I love my XM but JUST got my 03 Screw. The wife is resisting my efforts to put my delfi XM in the truck for at least a week.

My question: what antenna are you using and if you are using the mag mount delphi how do you get it it the cab?

In my 97 150 it ran thru the 3rd light and into the cab.

My antenna runs in the exact same place. I'm using a Terk (one of the first ones) that looks like a black zit on my roof... hahahaha ... Just don't pop it!!! LOL!
