Can my Screw tow this?

My wife I are about to buy a trailer and want to be sure that my rig can handle it. The trailer is a 29' Terry Dakota with a dry weight of 4050#. I weighed my truck today and it weighs 5640#. With passengers, luggage, water, etc. that should still put me about 1000# below the 12,500 limit. I have a 2001 4x4 ORP 5.4L w/ 3.55. I do have a K&N, Magnaflow exhaust, and a Microtuner.

What are your thoughts?

I don't think you would have a problem. I have the same 3.55 rear gear and tow a heavier trailer with no problem. I would recommend that you use a proper weight distribution hitch.

Private seller or dealer?

I suggest you try to arrange a test ride. While others may feel comfortable, it may not work for you. Some times those weights are not completely accurate on the trailer. The RV manufacturer's frequently display the weight without a lot of the xtra's that are installed.

At 4,050 it should handle it, but take it from someone one who learned the hard way try a test drive if at all possible...

I agree

Try to test drive it first we had bought a 2003 Dutchman QB 5TH wheel and use with our screw well it worked but I did not feel safe I beleive it was because of the tires it felt like I was rolling back and forth on them. but when I weighed it loaded it came in at 7400LBS so ya the stickers are a little off (dry at 3980LBS). So I did the ultimate evil thing and bought a Chevy Silverado 1500HD WOW what a difference that thing is great, but I do mis my screw I'm sure I'll get over it.
