Question Speakers

I ordered Pioneer Speakers for the new truck and just wanted to ask how easy it is to install them? Looks like I have to take the whole door panel off. I cannot see where the speaker grill comes off by itself.

Is/Are there any tips or tricks I need to know before I embark on this task? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

This is a great forum and full of really nice people. Glad I found it and joined. Hats off to everyone in here.

Pull the door latch cover out and off. Pull the window switch panel up from the front of the truck and forward a little before lifting up. (I just use my hands to pull them off, no tools are really needed)

After removing the screws in the door panel (one is hidden under the door latch cover), pull UP not out on the door panel to remove it or you can break the plastic tabs in the door.

Dont forget to remove the light bulb from the door lights before you yank the door panel off.

I cut the plug off of the factory speakers and left enough wire on the plug so I could re-install them if I sold the truck.

If you are adding an amp and the whole 9 yards, you might as well go ahead and Dynamat the doors (or use the generic stuff). If not, at least put a little tape on the edges of the factory matting as it will eventually try to come loose if you dont.

If you have crossovers, they can be hidden in the armrest area of the door if you need to. Mine wedge in well enough that they dont rattle or move around.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like rbraughn hit it right on the money.

The rear doors will require you to remove the plastic piece that runs up the end of the door next to the window. There is one screw behind there...the other on the rear door is behind the door handle I believe.

Just take your time. Don't get in a hurry. If the door panel feels like it's stuck... stop, fall back, hunt for another screw. They come on and off VERY easily thus, if it won't come off, don't force it.

Enjoy those new speaks. I sure love my Pioneer 3-ways.

There used to be a thread on this forum with a link that one of the members put out there that showed pictures of how to remove the door panels and how the speakers fit in. It even showed where the 7mm screws were that needed to be taken out. I followed them and they were right on. I will do some research and try and find the link. I will post it when I find it.
