2003 vs 2004

Need some feedback on my situation. I am in the finance industry but when it comes to my own, I draw a blank.

I currently have a 2001 xlt SC with 50k miles - owe 13,5k at 6.9% rate with 2,5 of 5 years left. I just put new cat back system(kept old muffler) and I have a ARE Z Cap. I never keep a car past 5 years.

The current zero for 5 years has me interested in a new 2003 - can upgrade to lariat or king ranch and keep payments almost the same due to great financing. I could pull out my stereo, step bars, exhaust and ARE top.

With the 2004's coming out soon, what's a man to do? Cant use my 1 year old ARE cap on that new one. Very happy with the functionality and looks of the 01-03.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Get the 03 now and then get a 04 in sept or oct! I bought a 03 lariat fx4 last month and ordered my 04 last week.

I'm 99% sure that 0% doesn't apply to SuperCrew, HD, or SVT products.

I've tried to read that 'fine print' at the bottom of that commercial 55 times and maybe I'm reading it as 'Harley Davidson Supercrew' but, I thought it said SuperCrew by itself...

Not sure.

No doubt that you can get lariat or King Ranch Editions though. They make both, as I'm sure you know, in a supercab edition just in case this offer doesn't apply to SuperCrews.

Go to the dealer and do the numbers with them based on what you want in an 03. Then make your desission on that.

I would wait on the new F150 so they can work some bugs out. At least 2005.

If the numbers look good on an 03 and you can get what you want then go for it!

I agree with dcovell,

Get a 2003 now. I would wait until at least 05 or 06 to let Ford get the bugs out of the redesign.

My .02 cents

My 3 year lease just ended and I had always intended on getting into a 2004 for my next vehicle. But just for kicks I entertained the idea of taking a 2003 instead to see what the cash back and finance rates would allow me to do. I was quite surprised at how much more these vehicles cost today. I think I was coming up with $1600 more than what I paid in 2000 for the same options. And then my dealer is saying the 2004's will be another $500-800 on top of that. Add to that the fact that I doubt they will have any cash back offers initially and we are talking about a significant change in what I'm paying per month. With the cash back on the 2003's I was able to add some nice options and actually keep my lease payments the same.

The other factor that made me get the 2003 was my experience test driving a 2003 Expedition. I figured here is the 2004 SCrew interior and the latest technology Ford has to offer. I expected it would ride smoother (it's an SUV not a truck) and feel more classy to drive. Boy was I wrong! I was extremely disappointed. The interior looks nice but it seems cheap to the touch. It seems more cramped up front than the SCrew and the stereo sounded worse. I couldn't wait to get out of it!

After that I couldn't wait to get into a 2003 SuperCrew and it was better than I expected. They still feel like the old ones with some improvements to boot. They steering is much easier (nothing truck like anymore) and the suspension is a bit more firm (less body roll). But most importantly that unique quality they have is still there.

With the 2003 you can get those extra options you couldn't the first time around. It's the most cost effective option. You know you won't be disappointed.

thanks a million

I appreciate all your comments. I was thinking that the 04 would definately have bugs and I did not want to have to deal with that.

I put alot of miles on my truck to going to and fro my parents, hunt camps, and rental properties, so a lease is not an option.

I am going to look at the 03's in the next day or so. Anybody know how I can get the "a" plan pricing as a regular consumer?

Thanks,

BC
