What are the differences in the 2001,2002,and 2003 Screw?

just curious? They all look pretty much the same to me on the outside. Can someone list some of the changes they made over the three years?

thanks

I had the same question myself

Here is a link to the thread and 15 responses to that same question.

Gen. I, 2001 was a POS ( actually built early 2000 )
Gen II, 2001 was a little better.
Gen III, 2001 recv'd rear headrests.

2002; improved front end, some minor engine mods, CD/radio mod. ( actually came from '01 Gen II, late )

2003; optional gearing is main change.

Just my experience, my Gen I '01 was a lemon. It was also one of the first vehicles off the assemblyline back in early 2000 and such had the firstborn blues.

Stay away fron '01 Gen I models. I traded mine on an "02 and there is a big difference in the ride quality, engine noise, and paint and body work.

I'm sure there are others who will not agree, but I am just going by *my* experience.

Anyone else have this opinion of '01 Gen I? I assume we have a Gen I, it was purchased in July of 2000. We have no complaints. Ride quality and engine noise could be better, I suppose, but we just attribute that to the fact that it's a truck. We've had one mechanical problem (serpentine belt disintegrated) which was covered under warranty, but other than that, we've been really happy with it. Anything I should be on the lookout for?

Easy there partner. I drive an '01, and it has been one of the best trucks I've owned over the past 10 years. One warranty repair to date (knock wood), which was no big deal. The '01 you had might have been exactly as you described it, "a lemon". No flame intended, just another opinion.

It's interesting how these trucks have evolved over 3 years. After I bought my first one in May 2000 I eventually stopped paying attention to future versions and what changes were made. Those changes became rather obvious when I test drove the 2003's. The addition of the head rests and better looking seats were nice. The steering was much easier, almost too easy. The ride was more firm as were the seats. Some things were missing such as the door lights, speed sensitive volume, the tint strip across top of the windshield and running boards as standard equipment. Other than that everything was pretty much like the original. Some nice touches like better looking grab handles, a firmer more quality feel to the controls and a leather steering wheel. When you look at the big picture its about a wash. That great feeling you get when sitting behind the wheel exists in the 2003's as it did in the GEN I's. And the proud feeling that comes over you when driving it will never go away. That's what it's all about isn't? Any by the way, I couldn't turn in my 2001 until I found a replacement - a 2003!
