Screw vs. Z71
Screw vs. Z71
His Truck: 99 Cheby Z71 extra cab, automatic, 5.3l, 3.73 LS gears, Gibson cat back, Airraid filter in factory housing, Superchip programmer, 305/70/16 Nitto Terra-Grappler's, Monroe Reflex shocks, about 80,000 miles. (I know this stuff because I work on this truck quite a bit)
My Truck: '01 Screw 4x4, automatic, 5.4l, 3.55 LS gears, Gibson cat back, K&N filter in factory housing, 265/75/16 POS tires, Rancho RSX shocks, 37,000 miles.
From the light, my truck got the hole shot out to about 1/2 a length, we stayed that way for the distance. I'm impressed with my truck. It's heavier, has higher gears, factory rated at less horsepower, and has fewer mods, and it stayed in the race!

Not surprising at all. His larger tires probably offset the difference in gears. The only other biggie is his programmer, which is probably the only reason he kept it interesting.
Before I traded for my SCrew, I had a '99 SC 4x4 5.4 3.55LS stock everything. Light-to-light raced a '99 Z-71 ext. cab 5.3 don't know what gears. I smoked him easily.
I don't remember the numbers exactly, but APPROXIMATELY...Chevy's HP numbers are somewhere around 5000 RPM(above most ppls useable range. plus, there is very little torque in those high RPM ranges)
Ford's HP ratings are at around 2500-3000 RPM I think. Right in the middle of useable RPMs. again, I don't remember the exact numbers, but it's close.

Pre superchip, my truck got it's but kicked by a 96 Z71 but he had 4.10 gears. I was able to keep up but he definatly had more acceleration. At around 85 though he was starting to run out of RPMs, his top speed was like 95 or 98 MPH. Gearing and tire size means so much and most people just keep thinking horsepower, horsepower, horsepower.

Thats great
