largest size tires for stock 4x2

Hi all,
I just bought a 2002 4x2 xlt supercrew.
Still trying to get used to it from my explorer, but so far am enjoying fixing it up.
My question is, what size tire can I go up to without making modification? I have gotten several answerst to this...265/7516, 285/7516,275/7016
Help!!
I would like to lift it up but am also confused about diff between suspension and body lifts and what voids my warrenty.
Would appreciate any help..thanks

I'm not totally sure on your question as I'm not very good with tire sizes etc but, I did want to be the first one to welcome you to www.f150online.com . This is a great site and you'll find a wealth of information in the forums. Just about any question that you have will be answered here in some way/shape/form.

I, too, went from an Explorer XLT to a SuperCrew. The Explorers are nice but, they just can't touch the functionality of the SCREW in my opinion...

Again welcome aboard and congrats on your new truck.

I'm no tire guru, so I will defer to the other experts in the forums. As far as the warranty, you are free to do whatever you want. Warranty service can only be denied if the modification caused the problem. For example, they couldn't deny warranty work on my a/c because of a suspension lift. The burden of proof is on the dealership/factory to prove that a customer installed modification caused the problem, not the other way around. Check out the Magnuson-Moss Act for more details.

How high of a lift do you want? If you want a kinda 'stock' 4x4 look and want to level thetruck out I suggest spindle lifts by fabtech. You will get a 3½ inch list in the front and with the blocks in the back a 1½ inch lift in the back I believe. If you want any higher than go with suspension. I honestly wouldnt do a body lift I do not like the way it looks, you can see a lot of the under side of the truck.

Here is a truck with 265/75/16 http://fordcustoms.com/photopost/sho...t=1&thecat=500

Im not sure what is the biggest tire you can use. I am kinda trying to find an answer to the same question. I hear a lot of different things, but I think the 265s are the biggest recomended for the 16 inch stock rims.

Cannot help with tires sizes (I'm running 285/50/20's with a 3/4 drop on my truck)

You mention the warrenty concerns: I took my lowered modified truck to the local Ford dealership for a screaming differential, they replaced the offending parts with no questions. At first I was worried that they'd nail me for the lowered truck and try to say that the modifications caused the failure, but he said as long as I didn't open or modify the diff, then I'd be cool and everything would be covered.

I've seen several members here and at FTW that are running 285/75-16 with stock 16x7 and aftermarket 16x8 rims on stock 4x2's.

current size tires

the tires on the truck right now are 255/7016.
I just got a quote for a 3 inch body lift (fabtech I think) and BFG all terrains 285/75 16 for total price mounted balanced of 1250.00. Does that sound about right. the lift is 550 and tires 175 each.

Does anyone have any comments about body lifts and whether they are ok or should go with suspension? I dont want to have to mess with anything underneath if I can help it.

thanks

A 285/75-16 is approximately a 33x11.50-16. I have a body lift and love it. This is the third truck I've owned with a body lift.

i have 305/45 r22 on 22x9.5 neeper rims. everything is great except when you turn the wheel "all the way" to the end they rub ever so slightly on the plastic protective liner. i am going to modify it alittle to adjust for the wide tire.

I would do spindle lift. I perfer that over body simply beacuse it lifts the whole truck, it should run about the same price as the body lift.

2X4 tire size?

Welcome! I have been trying to figure out the same thing. I just want to "level" mine out (spring spacers? or spindles?). I tow mine behind my motorhome, so I don't want to lift it, too high!
