Changing From 265s to 285s..How Will This Affect Performance?
I'm going to get rid of the Goodyear RT/S tires that came on my Screw even though they only have 2000 miles on them. They are really ****ty in the rain (and we have lots of that here in the Pacific NW). So, I am going to put either some Rossi or Modern wheels along with Goodrich TAs in 285 70/17 instead of the 265s. Has anyone with a Screw put 285s on your truck and if so did they work ok?
Since you have 3.73's, you should be alright. You might notice a little loss of bottom end and some shifting out of overdrive on hills, but you may also gain some MPG if you do a lot of hwy driving.
I have 3.55's and wouldn't think of going to a taller tire without a gear swap - the 3.55's are already sluggish.
If you do go with the 285's, let us all know any differences you notice.

I went from the 265/70/17s to the 285/70/17s and love the larger tire but noticed the diffrence instantly with the less acceleration.
I have the 3.55s and want 4.10s but since you are lucky enough to have the 3.73s I wouldn't bother with a gear change unless you have money coming out of your....
I wouldn't go any larger than the 285s or you will start to really notice the acceleration/power or should I say lack of. It's very simple as to why this is a problem. Just think of a 10 speed bike where you have to pedal harder in a higher gear but you can go faster for every pedal it's just a lot more work. Thats basically what your doing with putting a larger tire on is making your final gearing "shorter". But since your rear 3.73 gear is already "taller" than the standard 3.55 gears you shouldn't notice nearly as much as I did.
I also agree that the stock Goodyear tires suck big time! I live in San Diego where it hardly ever rains but was scared to drive in it with my old tires even after only 15,000 miles. I now have the Goodyear MT/Rs and love them! Best traction you can ask for in all type of weather and road conditions. If you never offroad though there a bit of a waste. I love to hit the trails so I have a use for them.
You should goto tirerack.com and put in the tire size 285/70/17 and you will get 3 tires that will fit your truck. The one I have and the BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM and BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO.
