Unhappy 02 SCrew Bucking Problem

Hi, I have a problem that just started last night. Under acceleration, I get anywhere from a light shudder to a severe bucking, and this a.m., the Service Engine Soon light came on. Any ideas what this might be?

I wouldn't even try to diagnose it yourself. Get it to the dealer ASAP. If the check engine light is on they can plug it in to get the code and see what went wrong. Since you have an '02 i am assuming you're still under warranty.

Yeah, it's there now, I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this. The stupid service receptionist was trying to diagnose it for me - "Well, it might be a filter or some other service related item that's not covered under warranty". Well, if you're that smart over the phone, may you should be a service tech Thanks!

Glad you have it in for service. My wife's 2000 Explorer had similar symptoms that turned out to be the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. My mother in-law's 1998 Explorer had the same issue a few months later. That would really seem premature for a 2002 vehicle though.

Did it idle OK or did it only buck and shake under acceleration? My wife's Explorer bucked and shuddered but also had problems holding an idle without feathering the accelerator.

The only warranty work I had to get done on my 2001 SuperCrew is the IAC valve. I called and told them the service light came on after it felt like the accelerator was sticking... They said bring it in and they had me out in about 30 minutes. Granted I had to drive 30 miles and past 4 other Ford dealerships to get that kind of service.

If it is between certain RPM idle-2000 my bet would be one of the coil packs. I have had 2 go out so far, as well as the IAC.

Good Luck!!
