what oil does everyone use?
Kendall 5-20 GT1 every 3-5 thousand miles.
Best stuff there is but kinda expensive. My dad sells it so we get it at cost. As far as the filter goes we use the motorcraft filters because of the extra deep ridge at the end makes it easier to remove. Major pain to get to the filter on the 4x4!!!
Oh and if you have never heard of Kendall it's because there advertising is almost non-existent but is widley regarded especially in the racing industry as the best oil you can get. I have seen a picture of the yellow Pensoil car (NASCAR) with a box of Kendall GT1 sitting next to it in the pits. Ask some race car drivers what they "really" use in there rides...
Mobile 1 is a good oil as well as valvoline. Syntetics are way too expensive and generally a waste of money unless your in an extremly cold enviroment and need the thinner oil.

Note to self, be a better speller.... Kendal > Kendall

I think it's great that you stand behind a product that your dad sells, but if you're going to promote a product that has s*** for advertising, learn how to spell the name of the product so those who are interested can punch up their website. Kendall, not Kendal.
As far as your position concerning syntHetics go, too expensive is a personal matter. Waste of money? WTH are you talking about?? You'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE who has reaped the benefits of synthetic oil to agree with that statement. Let's see, easier starting, increased power, less engine wear, not to mention lower emissions and a HELL of a lot longer usable life than any petro-crud on the market. But if you do happen to find a crude based oil that has gone head to head with a well known synthetic from an independant lab test, I'd like to know about.
The oil isn't thinner. All oil that meets the Petroleum Institute standards for viscosity go through the same standards process. It flows better at lower temperatures NOT because it's thinner. 5W-30 Synthetic and 5W-30 Petroleum are both 5W-30's. It flows better because it is--better. Much.

For you guys using Mobil 1 and other synthetics, did you guys start with your first oil change?? A local shop didn't reccommend them until after 32,000 or so miles because of problems (this was a few years ago when syn first came out) I'm ready for my first change and want to go the best way. Thanks!!
Mobil 1 here. You can get a oil and filter change at Walmart for $27. I stood there and watched them do it. They got the oil right off the store shelf. The one I go to has a lift instead of a pit so I got under there with them to check out they're work. I waited till I had 5000 miles before I put in the Mobil 1.

rphman,
That's old info. Years back, synthetic oils didn't let the engine break-in properly. They also tended to leak where petro's wouldn't. Both of those problems are ancient history. Some cars even come equipped from the factory with Mobil 1. To answer your question, yes, first oil change at 1,400 miles was to synthetic.

Filter Study
For you guys who use anything other than Purolator or Motorcraft filters, you may want to read the info on this site,
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/
If you're using a Fram, you should really think about replacing it. It's about the worst filter out there.
When it comes to the different kinds of oil, the most important thing to remember is it really doesn't matter which brand you use, as long as it meets the manufacturers specs and you change it regularly.
Anyway, that's my 'take' on it.
