Tires for Screw

My General's are just about to fall off my truck after 32000 miles and I guess now is the best time to replace them (tax money, OH YEAH!!). The stock monsters on it are 255 70 16's. My question is this: What is the best size to get with a stock ride height and stock 16" wheels. I don't want tires that are as tall as these, but I don't want to have a huge gap between the top of the tire and the fender. I am planning to lower the truck in a year or so, but at that point I hope to have L wheels and newer tires. Thanks for the advice.

SilverCrew,

If you go with the stock rubber on the L wheels, they are only ~3/4" shorter then the current tires you have ( I have the stock wheels for winter, and L wheels for summer ).

Lots of L owners put on 0/2 & 2/4 drops on the truck ( level truck, and drop and level truck options ), without having problems with the tire size.

I think ROUSHFAN-1 has either 20s or 22s under his now.

So dropping the truck, unless you are going to a 3/4 drop, the tire size should not be an issue.

I just saw a set of Toyo Proxies on a SCrew this week, and they look good, with a nice tread pattern similar to the Mich Alpine Sports I have on the car. Stock size on the Toyos.
He drives a bunch, and said they work great in rain / snow.

The thing to remember about gettng L wheels, is to get the Ford racing wheel stops. M-1010-L and replace he factory wheel stops.
These are about 1/4" thicker then stock, and stop the inside part of the rim from rubbing on the brake line / frame area, so you don't spit a wheel weight off the rim, or scar up your L wheels.

If you go much smaller, until you lower the truck, you might have more of a gap in the wheel well then you'd like. I already think stock there is too mcuh myself.
