Thumbs down Chevy Avalanche a Major FLOP

Not since the Pontiac Aztec has such an ugly disaster rolled off the GM assembly lines.

To add more salt to Chevy's wounds, GM is now forced to add $4000, YES FOUR THOUSAND DOLLAR rebates to move the Avalanche. The Avalanche has barely been on the market and sales are pilummeting, forcing GM to add unheard of rebates on it.

Chevy had originally forceast sales of more then 100,000 - 150,000 a year.

"GM raises truck's rebate to $4,000 after sales fall

February 11, 2003

BY JOE MILLER
BLOOMBERG

General Motors Corp., the world's largest automaker, increased the Chevrolet Avalanche rebate to $4,000, the highest in the company's U.S. lineup, after the truck's January sales fell 47 percent.

The discount rose from $2,500 on Friday and now is about $1,000 more than the company's next-biggest rebate, spokeswoman Elaine Redd said. The move follows a $500 rebate increase three weeks ago on the Avalanche, a large sport-utility with an open pickup bed. The latest offer ends Feb. 28.

General Motors sold 3,529 Avalanches in January, the lowest U.S. monthly total since the truck's mid-2001 debut. The automaker began boosting truck incentives in late January because sales sagged after some rebates and discount loans were scaled back earlier in the month. General Motors' total monthly sales fell 2.2 percent, more than the industry's 1.9 percent drop.

"They're still trying aggressively to maintain or increase their share of the market," said Burnham Securities Inc. analyst David Healy, who doesn't own or rate the Detroit-based company's shares. "General Motors still would rather lower prices before it lowers production."

I agree that Chevy is junk however the folding rear cab wall or what ever you call it would come in handy in my Supercrew from time to time to haul larger objects. For the record that is the only"Prop" I give Chevy

Cool

Sometimes I think that there must be some body design engineer who sits and laughs his / her @ss off because they managed to get GM to buy off on both the Aztec and the Avalanche!!!

Oh well, GM never made a Maverick!!!

I never thought that I would EVER come to the defence of a Pinto but,.... It was named after a horse not the bean.

Cool

I know it's not a Ford, but the Pacer has to be in the Top 10 "I wouldn't be seen dead in this car" category...

This thread is fun. I forgot about the Mustang II. What an insult to those 60's 'Stangs, huh ???

Another thing I've noticed about those Aztecs: How 'bout those colors - As if the shape wasn't bad enough, now choose between baby-***** green, school bus yellow, etc. WOW !! I'll say it again, some designer is laughing like crazy right now...

Thumbs down Analysts Downgrades GM, stock tanks

I guess the stock analysts finally saw an Avalanche and put a SELL rating on GM today........

"Analyst downgrades GM stock

Pension, competition are cited for sell rating
February 13, 2003

BY JEFFREY MCCRACKEN
DETROIT FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER

Citing concerns ranging from an underfunded pension fundto foreign competition in the truck market, a prominent Wall Street auto analyst became the first to downgrade General Motors Corp. stock to a sell, the lowest rating a stock can get.

Partly in response to the downgrade, GM stock fell 5.6 percent, or $2.03, Wednesday to close at $34.02. It was the biggest decliner on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which fell by 1.1 percent, or 85 points, to close at 7,758

OK, the Avalanche isn't great looking, but to compare it to an Aztec is just wrong. The Aztec is the uglies thing that's ever been built. My wife and I were at a light the other day, and one pulled up next to us. We couldn't believe that somebody would shell out good money for something that looks like that.

Now that I think about it, all the cross-over vehicles are ugly. Even that BMW. Have you seen that new Porsche? Makes me wish minivans were still popular.

Ugly cars (IMO):

Aztec
Maverick
Pinto
Gremlin
Original Taurus/Sable
Any new SUV/Minivan/Car cross over
Mustang II
Pacer
Saab 900
El Camino
Volkswagon Thing
Jeep Comanchee
Hummer H2
Chevy Caprice
PT Cruiser
Prowler

I can't think of any more.

And never forget marketing the Chevy Nova in Mexico... Translates to "won't go" I think....

$4000 rebate.. that doesn't even get it close to Screw pricing, does it?

I wish I could give credit to whoever first said the following line but, I'm just not sure who you were... bottom line, it's not my humor but, it is good...

Speaking of the Chevy Avalanche...

"I cringe at the thought of how many rubbermaid trash cans gave their lives in the manufacturing of one Avalanche..."

LMAO!
