Cap Cleaning Question
I recently traded in my 2001 SuperCrew and purchased a new 2003 SuperCrew. My old 2001 had a "Roll-N-Lock" but I purchased a new ARE Z-Series for the new truck. I DO NOT have a sliding rear window on my truck or a removable window on the Cap so what's the best (and easiest way to keep the exterior of the rear window of my cab and exterior of the front window of the Cap clean? There is probably less than 1" of space between the two. Just curious how others are keeping this area clean.
Sounds like your dealer may have done you a dis-service
I just got an ARE Shell for my truck and got the tilt down window option on my shell. The option was only $35. The only other way to clean in that space is with a sponge and a Rag on a thin stick!!! They are actually sold for that purpose. The window for your shell is shown on the link below.

It is the picture on the upper right of the link. Hard to tell without looking carefully, but the whole window drops down so you an get to the outside of the trucks window and to the outside of the shells window. Works really well.
Maybe it can be added to your existing shell? I don't know about that . . . sounds sort of doubtful.

When I purchased my ARE Z cap the price for the swing down and the fixed window were the same, so I got the swing down. Maybe you could ask the distributor if you could trade out the fixed for the swing down. Think it would be a royal pain to clean otherwise.
GregFry - I just came back from Camper World
While I was there I told the guy your story and asked how much it would be for you to get the tilt down after the sale. (like your situation)
He said that the $35 fo the tilt down option is an upgrade. In other words it cost so much for the fixed window which was not put into the shell in the first place . . . and the tilt down cost $35 more at that point in the process. For you to get the tilt down window option now would probably be about $100, but I think it would be worth it myself.
nukescrew said the cost was the same, but I think the dealer just had enough room to work on price that it might have been stated that way. (I don't know that for sure of course)
Anyway, I thought you might be interested in the cost to get that option.
I think I would go beat up on the shell dealer a bit and see how much he will do to accomodate you.
Just my thoughts . . .

My cost to upgrade to the flip down slider was the same as THall. I wish I had that option available on my last three toppers. It's the easiest way to clean the windows. Plus I was able to place my custom built boot into place easier that way also. A guy I know has a ranger with fixed glass and has a hard time cleaning it because of the tight space. I guess the only other way would be to slide the topper back a few few every few months and reach in there and clean it real good.
