Invoice vs MSRP
FamilyMan,
Thank you very much for that link to FordDirect.com X-Plan pricing, as this was exactly what I was looking for.
I have an X-Plan pin and will be using it on my 03' truck purchase.
I was even able to view the inventory of dealership where I am buying the truck from.
Thanks again everyone.
I will post some pix when I get the truck.

No prob,
As of yet haven't received it, here's my e-mail again incase I did a typo. familyman@mail.com Thanks.
MrTude Anytime, glad I could help. Hammer on them dealers and don't be afraid to walk out the door.
Just got the wife an 03 Explorer xlt Sport, Sticker was 35600, traded an 00 Grand Am GT still owing 14600 on it, final price to me was 32500 at 5yrs and 2.9 financing. Average trade on the 00 being 10000 and still owing 14600 makes the diff 4600+ the 3000 off sticker gives me a total of 7600 off msrp, I don't think that's to shabby
Had to talk to 5 different dealers a couple times over 1 week, don't be afraid to call another one on the cell and say look, I'm here at such and such and need to know if you want this deal before I sign..... sometimes they'll let you walk, but sometimes you get a deal you can live with
Well......... I'd post a pic but the gallery here is down and apparently FTW is a nono, can't post a link to the pic there cause every time I try it turns to ************ LOL , Oh well, will post a pic when F150 is done working on theirs

I tell you, it amazes me what people are paying for new cars sometimes. My partner works for Ford credit and I was able to but my 03 SuperCrew King Ranch on the "A" plan. The sticker on the fully loaded truck was $39,120.00. I got a price of $32,800.00. That was 1% over dealer cost. No number fudging as it was monitered by Ford. I then got the 1500.00 cash back and then I added the Ford 5 year/100K warranty for 1100.00. (I worked that deal too). So I got a great deal as my friend bought a King Ranch also and paid 37K for his. The "X" plan is what I used on the 01 SuperCrew I had and it saved me about 4K back then.
You guys keep saying 600.00 under invoice or 200.00 under dealer invoice for X plan. You were not looking at the dealers actual cost of the vehicle, cause if you were paying 600.00 under invoice (thinking that was the dealer cost) you were mistaken as the dealer is going to make money on every vehicle. X plan is 3% over the actual dealer cost from Ford and A plan is 1% over actual dealer cost. My better half works for Ford and hear stories all day long on how dealers deceive the public. All of the incentives out there that you know of are nothing compared to the ones you know nothing about. On our 02, we got three different incentives (cash back) including the 2500.00 big one. The others were smaller 350.00 here and 500.00 there.

Charges You Should Question
* FDAF Ford Dealer Advertising Fee? $65.00
* Extended warranties. Sometimes warranties are added without the customer's consent.
* Appearance or protection packages. Usually paint protection or sealant.
* Administrative costs.
* Dealer flooring charge. Another cost of doing business, and one that is covered by holdbacks.
* Dealer-installed security system. If you want a security system, order one from the manufacturer or try an aftermarket source.
* Delivery & Handling (D&H). Delivery is paid for by the destination charge, and does not need to be paid again. And "handling?" Your guess is as good as ours.
* Fabric protection. Do your own with a $5 bottle of Scotchgard.
* Pinstriping, the most expensive tape in the world.
* Rustproofing. It is unnecessary and can void your warranty in some cases.
* Sales promotion. What's the sale? When's the last time a sale charged the customer money?
* Teflon coating. No longer needed because of clearcoat paint used on cars today.
Factor in Dealer Profit - 1.5%, 2%, 3%, 4% and so on.
If you want a excel spreadsheet I prepared before I bought my Screw, send me an e-mail and I'll forward a copy. I used this to e-mail dealers requesting their quote. The ones who respond are the ones who are serious about selling you a truck.

Another thing the dealer will do with trucks is put on a bedliner. When I got my truck I told them I didn't want the bedliner so they deducted it off. When I went to the checkout area low and behold the bedliner was still in there because they were anzious to get me and the truck off the lot, heh.
If I had it to do over I would have stayed with plan A and got the rhino liner. Stuff slides around too easy on the plastic bedlier IMO.
The dealer also adds on all that paint protectant, seat protectant, dealer installed alarm, after market window tint. Here again if you refuse it they just let it go sometimes becuase they want to get rid of the truck and dont want to take the stuff off. I paid $200 over invoice and got the Ford low% financing back in '98. It's paid off now thank goodness.
It's my turn guys...
I just stumbled onto this site and thread. You guys are a wealth of information. I am about a week from going in and dealing on a '03 Screw and have visited all the links. I have 2 dealers nearby that have what I want but now with that "X-Plan" info I want to know how one qualifies or should I go in with that information and use it as inside information?
I thought that you had to have a family member or friend give you a PIN# to get the X plan pricing? and even then the dealer doesn't have to participate in the program, but in todays market I would think they would want to get vehicles off their lots.
Bingo, to what hapynzap said. Just walk-on the lot knowing what a good price is (X-plan prices) for whatever truck you have your eye on. When you're haggling with the salesman/woman and he/she trys to price you out of the target range (X-plan) start walking away. Remember, whatever price you're haggling for should not include any rebates, save that part for the end.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Yeah no doubt some dealers will act like the rebates belong to them, as if the negotiated price they give you includes the rebate already taken off, heh.
Before you go car shopping get your financing pre-approved thru eLoan or your Credit Union or similar. Then when you are on the lot and the salesman asks you how you are going to pay you say CASH! It's the same as cash because the dealer gets all cash at the time of sale. Also forget about doing a trade-in. Don't even bring it up. Sell the old vehicle yourself in the paper. Don't give the salesman your social security number or let them run a credit check on you! They hoodwink you with a form to fill out to get your personal information. Don't fill it out unless you are going to buy and if you are using your own financing there is no reason they need your social security number.
Finally if you decide on the Ford Credit financing over your own credit union's and Ford special financing rebate, be sure to carefully check all the numbers. Bring an amortization calculator to check their payments schedule and all figures.
Carefully weigh whether or not you really need an extended service plan. Are you going to keep the vehicle in years 4 thru 6?
What are your chances of breakdown? Would you be better just putting that money in the bank as a hedge against future repairs?
I was checking my ESP on my Mustang has a 6 year/75,000 mile Ford premium warranty that I paid $1320 for.
Then I looked at my F150 and it's a Chrysler 5 year/75,000 that they charged me $1220 for. The dealer I went thru is a big dealer here in town and owns a bunch of other dealerships and the gal in the credit dept with her fake finger nails and permed hair assured me that there was no difference in policies. Yeah right! I didn't pay attention and paid enough for a 3 year warranty but got only 2 years extended. I feel ripped off now but it's my fault.

XPlan is for Ford business partner employee's. Dealers do not have to give you xplan pricing, it is their option. If it is a hard to get vehicle, they may not honor it. I can' t blame them, you are asking them to sell you a vehicle for xplan that they could have sold many times over for a good profit over invoice, after all, it's a bidness....
X Plan, suppliers
Anyone who works for a co. that does anykind of business with them, even just delivering parts, shipments.
I have never had any of them NOT want to use it, and when I told one that my x-plan pin was at home and I'll go get it he said don't worry about it, I'll use one of mine.
Lastly, with the price spike in fuel the lots will thin out some with prospective buyers, they WILL want to deal.... Just my 2 cents
