Cool 2001 Truck Service Manual

OK Guys-

I ordered a Ford 2001 Service Manual CD Rom off of E-Bay and I have to say, in a nutshell, IT SUCKS !!!

Having got that out of my system, can you guys tell me where to get a decent manual, for less than a month's truck payment, for my 'Screw ??

I'd really like a book instead of a CD, but if the CD is good enough I'll gladly buy that.

TIA for any help / suggestions...

If you got that ref from me, sorry you did not like it.

I actually love mine ( the actual Ford brand one that is ) , the nice part is I have been able to print off sections for other members in pdf format and send them off. As well as being able to scan through sections with the search functions. No reading an index or the likes.

Also got the paper copy of the electrical for the garage, when I am working on things.

Again if you took my ref, sorry it did not work for you

Man I am sorry to hear about this. I also just bought a 2001 Ford F150 service CD off of Ebay and am awaiting delivery. I'll let you know what I think when it gets here.

Cool

OK, here's what the "Help...About" pick says in my Ford CD:

Ford Information Viewer, Version 2.7
Copyright 1994 by Ford Motor Company

It contains TSP's, EVTM data, Service Manuals, and PCED's.

However, the drawings are not very clear and they print out even worse. (It's not my printer; it's an HP LaserJet 1200)

I've been unable to find an easy way to print out the wiring diagrams (multiple pages so you can trace an entire circuit, etc.)

Is this the one you have, sscully ?? It is entirely possible that I'm too dumb to figure out how to use it as Ford intended but I don't think so. I use PC's all day, every day, and am pretty literate with regards to programs and such.

I'm not really complaining (whaddya want for $9.99, right ?!!) but would like something more akin to a Chilton's manual in electronic format.

I did not mean to insult anyone. If I did, please accept my apology. I was just frustrated that I couldn't print a wiring diagram and look for some of the harness info I need for an upcoming project...

B-Man,

That's the one I have exactly.

Once thing I do have a paper copy of the electrical manual in the top of my tool box, for working on electrical, so I have never tried to print an electrical schematic.

I have done some single page schematics, for other members, but these were not printed, these were print screens to a jpg file so I could put them in my gallery.

When I need the service manual for stuff, I have a laptop in the garage on the network, and just pull up what I need to view, from the CD rom in another computer.
Have a crappy keyboard with the plastic cover & a cheap mouse, so I can grease the snot out of it, and wash it later when I am done.

All in all, it sounds as if it does not work the way you need it to, so then I guess in those terms it does suck.

No insult taken, I was only offer my appology if you bought it from my recomendation that I had put in other posts. It is good that you did post this so the next person looking for a manual can take 2 opinions, or maybe a 3rd when wildcatter gets his. More opinions is always good, and opinions cannot be wrong, just maybe some disagree with them

Good luck finding one that you like, let us know what it is.

My CD arrived today. Sounds like we all have the same contents. On the Help-->About it says "Ford Information Viewer Copyright c Ford Motor Company 1994. It contains the 2001 EVTM, Service, and PCED manuals for the F-150 as well as all (I think) other Ford vehicles . There is a button for TSB's as well but it doesn't do anything when I press it.

The contents of the CD appear to be the real deal, but I am wondering if I got a bootleg CD because the thing has no markings at all. It is solid black on both sides and I hard a hard time even figuring out which side was up before I put it in the drive. It came in a plain white envelope, again with no markings. Is this what they really look like?

There is a wealth of information here which is going to take me quite some time to peruse. The drawings are a little grainy and the fonts wouldn't win any awards for sure, but there is a zoom in/out feature and a text enlarge/reduce feature in the viewer. I just went through the section on replacing brake pads and I think I would have no trouble with the procedures. Everything is spelled out step by step and when you click on a step the corresponding diagram comes up to the left.

I think the biggest problem I am going to have is finding information I am interested in because there's so MUCH info on the CD.

Considering that I paid $15 bucks plus $3 for shipping, I think I got my money's worth. Surely I can use it to do at least one repair myself that I ordinarily would not have done and thereby recoup my investment.

Mine came in a plain sleeve, but the disk is Ford Blue, with the Ford Logo, and with the various copyright, version and date info you would expect. However, it is printed on a paper label, not on the CD itself. Maybe a high-tech bootleg ??

My CD references that button, but it doesn't exist on the toolbar !! This is really weird...

Funny, they only charged me $9.99 & &3.00 shipping.

I guess that I'm expecting a little much. I have a friend with a Honda S2000 who got a service manual CD for it. It is really nice, especially with regards to printing out wiring schematics, repair procedures, troubleshooting tips, etc. I think I was correct when I said I was the problem, not the CD.

Sorry to have raised a negative concern when it is apparent that I'm the issue here...

Well, there is one thing about this CD that I think really stinks: the "find" function won't search the manuals. It just finds words that are on the page you are already reading. Whoopee. It takes an awful long time to get to the right page using the contents and index. A true search function would sure be a big time saver. Or am I doing it wrong???

cd's

sounds like these are not genuine ford cd's. The 01 should be white with blue writing. I may have some extras laying around since we get 2 new ones each month. check with a tech at a local dealer, there should be many laying around if not tossed in the trash like i used to do.

My CD came from Helm, I paid just a tad more then you guys .
With that in mind, it sounds to be the exact thing, so I don't think there is any difference so far.

As for seaching, I have never tried this function.

I usually use the table of contents to get to an area, then drill down, maybe I should try the search from a main point to find something to see if it gets anything,

If you do find one "laying around" and would consider parting with it, I'd gladly set something up for your trouble...

Wow I just started looking for a shop manual online yesterday. Didn't find much. I think I'd prefer a hard copy myself. Anybody know how to get one?? order from parts? Is there a Screw version or is it just for the 150?

WT.

I have the full set of service manuals in paper and cd version. I found a used set of the paper manuals on ebay too. You just have to look around for them.
