Really considering Access Cover

I need opinions, prices, and even pictures of access covers. I would like to cover my bed but would also like quick access to putting stuff in the back.

How much did you pay for yours?

Are you happy with it?

Any downsides?

Has it met your expectations?

Thanks in advance

Tom

I have had my Access Cover for about 2 1/2 years. I think I paid about $425. I've never had a problem, always works great. Easy access to the bed to carry tall items. Used to live in Minnesota when I first got it, with the temperature extremes up there it was nice to have the adjustment capability to keep it tight. Last summer made a trip from Kansas City to Albuquerque with the family and nothing ever got wet with the downpours in Oklahoma and Texas. Wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

tfleming.... I considered one for my truck but didn't buy it for one reason. The side mounting rails intrude into the bed so far that they really cut down on the side to side load capacity of your bed. Since I tend to haul a lot of 'stuff', and since the SuperCrew bed is already smaller than a standard short bed truck, I thought I needed to maximize every inch it had. As a result I bought a top rail mount tonneau (<$200) and have been very pleased with it. As a side note to eswartz's comments, I've hauled a lot of stuff under my tonneau and it's always stayed dry (even here in Florida). Good luck with your decision.

Thumbs up THE BEST!!!!

Tom,
I've had the same cover on my 01--02--and now my 03...easy to switch it from truck to truck. I can't say enough good about it. Everything is heavy duty and the best thing is there is no snaps . The velcro holds it tight as can be. I did a whole lot of research and loking at others before I bought the ACCESS, and I highly recommend it. The locking feature is great, too. You won't believe the shine using Armor All. Get one, you won't be sorry.

So far its one of my favorites. However BigDeal did bring up the one thing that does concern me. The rail hardware, it appeared to take up alot of room? Your thoughts?

The access has everything im looking for.

Easy install
ability to rollback or store for cargo.
Waterproof
attractive
quality
lightweight.

Talking Not a problem

It didn't seem to be a problem on mine---I think each rail sticks in about one inch, which doesn't affect the carrying capacity. Just my $0.02

Locking a soft tonneau! That's like locking the soft top on my friends Jeep Wrangler. Do yourself a favor, if you get the Access cover (and fork out $400+ for it) leave it unlocked! A simple pen knife can and will open it, which will result in a big bill for you. As to using Armor All on your tonneau, check with the manufacturer. Most tonneau manufacturers will only warantee the top if you do not apply a silicone or a petroleum based protectant to it. Armor All does not meet that requirement. I use 303 Protectant on mine which is the 'only' product recommended for use by the manufacturer of my tonneau. Again, good luck with your decision.

tfleming, I recently purchased and installed the Access Cover on my S'CREW. It was a breeze to install. The clamps are aluminum of course and they don't have lock washers. One of those deals where one definitely will have to inspect the clamps periodically to make sure the whole top won't go flying away. But it does look good though. The top is not 100% waterproof. I am getting some leakage towards the tailgate area. Not enough to get all worried about. I suppose I could move the rails back a little farther....

I bought the BedRug & Access Cover Combo from ExtreemTruck for $770 delivered. If I had the funds I may have looked into Roll N Lock a bit more.

And a simple hammer or rock can and will open your window, but that doesn't mean I don't lock my truck.

I am very happy with mine. It seems to be a lot higher quality than the other soft covers on the market.

Hey FC, you're absolutely right. A wrecking ball would open your truck too. It's too bad you didn't get my point, but now that we've both aired an opinion on this issue, let's not flowl up this thread with flames, deal?

The overall quality of the vinyl and rails are very good. The intrusion on the sides of the bed are minimal. I bought mine a little over a year ago for $445 total shipped to my door, which included a "free" trailgate seal that I haven't used. I would buy the same thing if I was buying again. The flat profile (no covered wagon bows) and lack of snaps make it a very nice looking cover.
