cdiddy4224, that sounds about right to me. I have almost always gotten between 18-20 MPG on pure highway driving using the cruise control in a 2001 5.4L 2WD. Every now and then I'll get only 17.7 or 17.8 mpg on a tank but not often--usually it's due to a stiff headwind.

Unfortunately my in-town mileage is only 10-12 due to street lights and stop signs on every friggin' corner in this town.

I'm with Dareford. My 2003 Screw is a 4x4 with stock 17" tires, 5.4 engine and 3.73 rear end. My current mileage is 3,445 miles. I put a magnaflow dual exhaust cat back on and a A.R.E bed cover hoping for better mileage, but I think my mileage has gone down. I average around 11.2-11.5 mpg in the city and have never been over 15 mpg on the highway. And I am driving on flat Florida roards, no hills.

I see all these high mpg numbers, and can't figure out why I'm on the low side. I'm not a lead foot, but do like to step on it once in a while.

The window sticker said 14 mpg city, 18 mpg highway. Boy would I love to have those numbers. The dealer said every vehicle is different, but this seems like a pretty large difference. Well, I can only hope it gets better as it breaks in.

I have an 01 SCrew, 4x4, 3.55 gears, and 33's. Before I got my superchip I got on average about 12.3 mpg on the highway. Since adding the chip I get about 14.2 or so. That isn't too bad if you ask me for a 4wd.

My 2001 Lariat with 3.55 and 17" wheels (I have Michelin Cross Terrain on them now) has about 36500 miles.

I have fairly consistently got 14-15 mpg around town (even during this cold weather, but we got rid of the oxygenated gas a couple or so years ago). Highway I get 15-17 mpg.

I have an ARE Z cap with Yakima roof rack.

I've taken trips from NC down to the FL Keys and also up to North Shore of Boston. Those trips yielded ranges of 15-19 mpg. I definitely noticed a variability in different state's gas (the oxygenated gas will suck a couple or more mpgs out of you).

I've averaged a little over 17 MPG on a couple of long trips with my 4X4 SCrew............... I'm happy with that!

I have an '01 4x4 Supercrew with 3.55's&LS, 17's and stock 265's. I took a 300 mile round trip once and got horrible mileage at about 11.5-12 mpg. I bought mine slightly used in. When I got back from this trip, I knew something was not right. So I checked the obvious air cleaner and fuel filter. I changed the fuel filter at 30,000 miles, and I put a drop in K&N filter right after this trip (Yes mine looked like it still had the factory air filter"was real dirty") I took the same trip about a month later, got 16.5-17mpg. I think these trucks do run the best mileage on the highway. Ive been logging for a while now and In town I get about 300miles a tank, quite a bit more on the highway. Now to see what I will get towing my rockbuggy and trailer (total of about 4000-4500lbs . I plan on adding a Magnaflow cat-back very soon too.

Okay,

Are you guys talking 4X4 or 2X4. I bought a new f150 Supercrew 5.4 4X4 in September and have kept every gas receipt and followed my mileage closely. The best it's ever done was 11.9 and average in the 10.7 -11.2 range. No mods. Is there something I'm missing. Should I be back at my dealer asking why. I'm afraid I'm going to get the standard "Well, that's pretty much average and the people on the internet aren't the norm." reply from the dealer.
I do live in WV and everywhere you go there's a hill. But come on you guys are ripping my wallet apart with all this 17 to 19 mpg talk.

I don't think I could see numbers like that even if I drifted down a 17 mile long hill with the transmission in nuetral.

that is my story too. only diff. is I live in Utah at 4600 ft. and hills everywhere too.

I just filled up today, so I did the math. 12.5

That's on reformulated gas, city driving, no cap, K&N air filter, 265 tires weather in the teens.

I have noticed the refomulated gas makes a noticable difference in the 5.4 engine. Both in power and milage.

I have a K&N air filter, but at 30,000 I suppose I should take a look at the fuel filter.

I was getting 14 in the fall, and hit 9 once in December using 4H and pulling a trailer on a cold 10* day.

I haven't taken a long trip with the Screw yet. I'd like to see what it can do in the open road using real gas.

I have a 2003 Supercrew with about 4300 or so miles on it. So far, I get about 13.5 to 14 MPG. This is with city/highway mixed. It is winter and its a heavy truck, so I hope when it breaks in more and its warmer, it will do better.

You just can wish for Honda Civic mileage when you drive a truck!

Cheers,

Jim

My 2003 Screw KR is a 4x4 with stock 17" tires, 5.4 engine and 3.73 rear end. My current mileage =3200+- miles. I have a Jason topper shell and I average around 11.2-11.5 mpg in the city and have never been over 15 mpg on the highway. I keep records on all of this and have the proof to show the dealer. I think it is not getting good numbers and I have tried with the light foot with cc and still the same math. I was told that some of the Supercrews in the last few months had come from the factory with some bad fuel filters and I wonder if this is why I do not get good milage. I think I will take mine in and check. Any ideas????

5.4 L / 3.55 rear / 2WD:

Recent 600+ mile trip, nearly all Interstate, Florida flatland, 75-85 MPH = 17.1 MPG

MPG - Gears

I've noticed that you guys that are getting 11.5 MPG in the city are running the 3.73 gears with the 265/70 17 tires on 4x4's. Thats alot of gear and drag which explains your difference in mpg. In my opinion if you go up to a 305/70 it'll save you some MPG because it'll bring your RPM's down to about the same as me running the 3.55 with the 265/70. Not only that but I've seen those tires on trucks like ours and they look great. I get about 12.5 - 13.5 in the city and 16.5 - 17.5 on the highway. Never 18 or better. I don't drive uphill all day though.

My next mod. will be the 305's and the 3.73 gears.

Re: MPG - Gears

I don't think this would be true, for the added friction of the larger contact surface combined with added rotational force (more total weight and more weight outside of center) would outway the lower RPM advantage. I would like to see a graph showing efficiency vs rpm of the 5.4, for this data would be benificial in this debate. BTW, I've been wanting a screw ever since it came out, but have held off due to job stability. I travel over 70 miles each day to work, and couldn't afford to use it as a daily driver. The introduction of 3.73 gear availability will greatly effect by decision when (if ever) the time comes to buy a screw, for mpg is one of my major deciding factors.
