Question Strange Noise at 50 MPH

Hey Guys,

My 03 XLT Screw is making a strange noise @ 50 MPH. If I accelerate up to 50, my truck seems to make a strange whiny kinda noise.

The funny thing is, I can't tell if its from the front or the rear. My wife says she thinks the rear although I just can't tell to be honest.

If I acclerate above 50, its not there. If I take my foot off the gas and then accelerate again to 50, it comes back every time.

Do you think it could be something with a vacuum hose (if its from the front) or something whining in the tranny?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Well, just to throw out a couple of ideas...

Vacuum leak could be a real possibility.

Could be rear end, especially if the noise changes pitch when you lightly change the throttle position when cruising at the speed where the noise is prevalent. (press lightly, then let up on throttle)

But, without a more detailed description of the noise(and whatever else may be happening along with the noise like maybe a vibration or something), it could be alot of things. Could even be tires.

I'd say, take it to the dealer. It's an '03, warranty will cover whatever it is.

RebelYell,

Thanks for the reply. The truck does not seem to vibrate or anything, it just makes this strange whining type noise.

Does not seem to effect the truck adversely at all, its just my curiousity has got me thinking it could be something wrong.

Guess I will mention it next trip into the dealer.

Thanks,

Jim
