Thumbs down Transmission Shudder / Diff. Vibration

At only 28, 000 miles my Supercrew (5.4L engine, auto trans, limited slip differential) beginning having noticeable shudder during light or hard acceleration from a stop AND vibration from the rear end when making a turn (only) from a stop, but not going straight.

Interestingly enough BOTH these problems began occuring VERY shortly after having both systems serviced (fluid change) BY THE FORD DEALER ???

What a coincidence ... what are the odds this just happend to occur after the dealer touched both systems ... hmm?

I suspected they put wrong fluids in both ends, as this would cause the symptoms. But according to the dealer ...

1. There is a Ford Service Bulletin re. tranny shudder when accelerating from a stop. They replaced a bunch of stuff (but not torque convertor). Thank God it was under warranty!

2. Rear differential clutch packs defective ... replaced. Thank God it was under warranty.

Have put a couple of thousand miles since then, no problems.

ps. My wife drives this truck back/forth to work ... no heavy towing etc.

Ford "Quality Is Job 1" comment:

* Transmission problem (see above)
* Differential problem (see above)
* Stereo system replaced (serious static, all stations)
* Driver side power window mechanism replaced (grinding/groaning/squeaking)

if you are still having the rear end shutter on turns they probably did not soak the clutch packs in friction modifier overnight as recommended, the easiest fix is put 1-2 more bottles in and drive in figure eights for 5-10 minutes, have them try that , the tranny shudder???

Is the problem solved,I am having the same exact problem.Were can I find the service bullitin on that.This sucks again.Just got my truck out a few week's back with leaking heads.
I about ready to bail out on Ford and go by that Dodge Hemi,it is looking real good.I was one of those guys who thought Dodge was sloppy on handleing,but after taking one out on a test run they is a bad boy.We will see.

Finally... a good place to use this...

Sorry, had to use it... (thanks to whoever I stole this from out of another post...)

In all seriousness, it's a very common problem and searching around will yield some interesting findings about the problem. I, too, have the shudder and haven't been able to figure it out.

I have heard of no resolution for the problem.

LOL @ RockPick!

I have the shudder that you talk about and another that's worse at 40-45 MPH in overdrive. It's at the point just before my SCrew will shift down to third. Don't know if the problems are related or not, but I'm heading to the dealer next week to get mine checked out.
