My light mod's are done and....

Ok I went & spent the money on the SilverStar light's and here is is my report. I really never realized how yellow the Halogen bulb's were until I got these. Now every car on the road seem's to have yellow light's.(Except the HID crowd). I put in 9007 for the head's & 9005 for the fog's. I spent 80.00 for all 4 bulb's.
I think it was money well spent & I like the look.(White with a very slight blue tint)

I also did the headlight/foglight mod right away and all went well with that. Although I did have more trouble doing it with this truck than I did with my 01 Screw. Not sure why though. Just one of those thing's I guess.

My fog's seem to be a little to low and in to close compared to before. I'll see how they are after I make my t-bar adjustment's.

Well onto the next mod's Hmmmmm what will it be ?

FALL...
How difficult was it to get the light switch pod out of the dash? I have yet to find the time to do the fog light mod, but I think I just may make time tomorrow. Any helpful hints on how to remove it without tearing anything up?
Sure wish removal was like on the '99 models. I am a little worried about that part of the mod, the rest should be a piece of cake.

Thanks

My switch came out pretty easily however; I have heard of it being a SOB to remove. Just be mega-super careful because if you snap the face plate, I think you're looking at buying a new switch.

I used a flat-head screwdriver and managed to pry it out with no damage what-so-ever to the dash or the switch.

Again, just be very careful!

Rebel,
That was the hardest part . It took me about 45 min. because I did'nt want to break it & I could'nt remember how I did it on my 01. I pulled the dash back slightly (very slightly) on the left side panel and was able to slide the screw driver in and press on the metal clip which then popped the left side of the switch. The bottom side has a slot for a small screw driver. Once I popped the left side I was able to look in there with a flash light to see where the clip's were. Just take your time & watch what your doing.

The other hard part was getting the ramp filed off . I did'nt remember that is was that much of a pain the first time. I did cut the ramp ( kind of whittled away at it ) with an exacto knife. There too take your time and be careful. I also cut the heat weld tab's off & glued the face plate back on when I was done .

When I did this mod before, I used a Dremel tool with a small circular abrasive attachment to make a new ramp. This worked very well and fast too. Had to stop and blow out the pieces every once in a while.
What kind of glue did you use to glue it back together? On the '99, it was not heat welded together. It had tabs that fit into slots. Was made to come apart. So opening it up will be different for me this time too.

Thanks Fall

I used a Loctite glue. There version of Super Glue. It worked well ,& just a small dab where each tab was will do ya.

I hooked the switch up & tried everything first . It all worked so I disconnected the wires & then glued it & reinstalled it. If you do it this way DON'T put the swith plate back into the dash just hook up the wire's & test the switch.

Just finished the fog light mod. Didn't have time today, so did it tonight! Getting the pod out was way more difficult than the '99 model, but once out, the ramp modification was easier on the '01. I had a little trouble getting the switch **** off, but the rest was real easy.

Thanks Fall for all your advice.

This board is a wealth of knowledge!

Rebel,
I was thinking about you tonite & wondering how the mod was going. I however did not take my switch **** off. That's why it was so difficult on filing the ramp down. I'm glad it all worked out for you & glad I could help ya out.

I still am trying to get used to the Sylvania Silver Star bulb's I put in. The work pretty nice . They do take some getting used to the white/blueish tint though. Just seem's kinda funny.

Well, I hope when you say the Silverstars seem "kinda funny", it's not a bad kinda "funny", cause I am heading out the door to try to find Silverstars as soon as I log off the board. I logged on to see which ones you used before I take off to town. I think I remember someone here a few weeks ago saying that AutoZone had them for $25 a pair.

It's raining here in S. C. at the moment, but maybe it will let up enough later for me to install them.

See y'all

My $.015 on the silverstars... the headlights are about the same brightness as the stockers, but definitely whiter - objects definitely more defined. The fogs are a HUGE difference over the stockers - much brighter and whiter. You wouldn't want to do one pair without the other, but if you really had to skimp - I'd say just do the fogs. I also got a report from a friend driving in front of me one night that my silverstars are "very annoying", so that's a major victory! Anything to help convince people to get the hellouttadaway is fine by me!

Thats funny you say that Jackers

I sometimes get flashed but there are so many cars in my area with the HID lights that most people just put up with it. Now my truck is 4x4 on 33" tires and a torsin bar lift of about 2-3 inches in the front. So my lights are a bit high. I will be getting them adjusted soon, but I can imagin that there really anoying.

And yes people do get out of my way at night, especially those little cars and those damm low riders...

Well, the Silverstars were not $25 a pair as I had thought. They are $25 EACH. So, I bought a pair of 9007's for $47.95 at AutoZone and just did the headlights. I will wait a couple of weeks to do the fogs. After installing the passenger side, I turned the lights on and the driver's side looked really yellow compared to the passenger side with the silvestar. The driver's side was a monster to do. Had to remove the bolts from the radiator resevoir and push it out of the way to be able to get my hand in there. After getting both sides done, the silverstars in the heads make the fogs look really yellow, so I am looking forward to getting all the lights replaced.
After dark, drove a few miles to check them out. Not alot brighter per se, but everything in the beams was really defined alot better. The white lines at the edge of the road was really white, everything eluminated better.
Money well spent.

guess ya didn't realize it would have been alot quicker and easier to just pull the 2 tabs up for the headlight and pop it out and swap the bulb and pop the light back in.

i can't wait to get a set of silverstars. i dont' want to get them thougn until i can find a good company that makes bulbs for my fogs that will match the whiter color

You know, I did take a look at that tab. it was in my way and I got to looking at it and wondered if I pulled it out would the lens come out, but I thought I might have to readjust the beams, and it was late and still misting rain and I just...well....did it the hard way, OK! Hehehe...just kiddin'. Sometimes when trying to take a shortcut, I wind up taking longer. Oh well. It's done now, though and I am happy with the headlights.

Will the 9005's that fit my fogs not fit the harley fogs as well?
