I just thought of something. I the engines section there is something about pinging. Someone said to clean the cam position sensor. You might also want to make sure that the MAF and heat sensor are hooked up good.

These supercharger kits say not to use a chip. They even say that a chip will void the warranty. A supercharger make some major changes in the way the truck runs. I can't imagine not upgrading the PCM. I would highly reccomend using a Superchip flip chip, tuned speceficly for that supercharged engine.

Also, we had a bitch of a time getting the compound fuel regulator clamped on. You might want to make sure that it's all the way dowm and the clamp is on securley.

I don't know about you but even with every thing working good I am always aware of the possability of something going wrong. The risk is higher supercharging these engines. Once you work out all the bugs you will see that it's all well worth the risk!

Wittom,

Thanks. There was sometthing that plugged into the front of the stock manifold, underneath on the black plastic "thing". I just unplugged it and left it unplugged since there is no place to plug it in now.

I will check the things you mentioned. It is funny how you mentioned the supplemental FMU. I still am unsure it is clamped down correctly. I can not tell if it is "pushed" down all the way.
I will check that out tomorrow.

I just got back. I was going to put the new plugs and plug wires in. But, I forgot to get anti-seize compound. Never used it before. But, I read a thread several days ago about a member whos plugs where stripped out. Now he may be looking at thousands in repair bills!!!! Anyway, I drove a total of 8o miles to a 24 hour walmart since they said they had it...they didn't!!!!!!

I will put the plugs and wires in tomorrow for sure as well as check out the things you mentioned. Thanks again.

The plug that went on the plastic front of the manifold is the intake manifold tuning valve (IMTV). If you were to go back to when I did my install, I questioned what to do with the plug. Crash! said that it (the IMTV) should be removed from the manifold and attached. I did this but it didn't seem to do anything anymore. I checked my manual on cd and it said that there was no imput to the PCM. I unplugged it and it and all has been fine sence.

The thread I did is there somewhere. I think I used the term IMTV in the title.

The IMTV is a butterfly type valve. At lower speeds it stays closed allowing air though only one chamber. At heavy/full throttle the valve opens allowing the use of both chambers. The valve is activated by the tps, and id not directly linked to the PCM.

If I am wrong on this, feel free to correct me.

Wittom,

You mean the IMTV is the entire black plastic "box" that is mounted underneath the upper intake manifold ? I am suppose to take the entire black plastic "box" off the stock intake and mount it somewhere under the hood and plug it back in???????????? What the h3!!??????
I got to find out more about this.

Today, Friday, at lunch, I am going to go put the best gas I have found around here. I have 91 Citgo which as always worked. But, I have put Texeco 93 from this particular gas station and can really tell the difference. Presently, I have under 1/4 of a tank. So, I am going to go fill up with the 93 Tex. and go get the anti-seize compound. Then plugs and plug wires tonight!

Sorry, I type to slow or have something I'm supposed to be doing, so I sometimes omit important details.

The IMTV is the part that the plug connects to. There are two screws that attach it to the lower intake. I would just leave it in there, especially if you might have someone that can use the intake.

I'm sure I left something out again but I really have to get back to work. I only get a half hour for lunch. When I sit in front of this damn computer and come here a half hour turns into an hour or more.

Very True!!!!!!!! ha!

I come to this site to check some threads and before I know it, my lunch break is over and I have an hour!!!!!!!!

Anyway, thanks for clarifying.

Finally got the anti-seize compound and some more of the special grease for the wire boots (accel gives you two little packets so I got 5 more packets).

I also put 93 Tex. gas in. It did not help. I had to get gas anyway, so I thought I would give it a try. It still hesitates.

I am putting the plugs and wires on as soon as I get home.

Its about 7:20 pm Friday night. Just got back from going out to dinner with family. Opened hood of truck and waiting for engine to cool down.

I put 93 tex. in at noon. I eased the pedal all the way and...no pinging! It still hesitates bad, but no pinging.

Hope the plugs and wires stop the hesitation!

8:50pm Friday night.

Engine is still a liitle too warm to get my hands all over it. But I started taking the airfilter kit and some brackets off to get to the pluggs easier.

As I was taking the air tube off the throttle body, I went to untighten the ring clamp holding the tube to the throttle body and.............it was loose, real loose, like so loose the airtube just slid off. I don't guess that could cause the hesitation problem, could it????

Hopefully in 30 min. or so I can finally get to the plugs.

Hi Ironhorse,
You're problem sounds exactly like a problem I had on my 97 f150 4.6. Ended up being a plug wire. Your truck is not throwing a check engine light is it?

If I was just easing along it was o.k. but as soon as I started accelearting, I would experience surges and pinging. I hope this is it for you.

f150intally,

Yes that helps!! That is exactly what my truck is doing. No, it is not showing any code or warnings, or check/serve engine lights.
I am still waiting for the engine to cool down to change the plugs and plug wires.

I had a car that acted the same way. I thought it was my transmission. It was not the trans., it was the plug wires! ha!

I intend to post how my truck runs after I install the new plugs and wires much later tonight. Thanks for your response.

It is about 5:30 am Saturday morning!?! and its.............

FIXED!!!!!! What? I said its fixed, its fixed its fixed!!!!! What your cat? No! My truck is fixed!

I took my time and installed the new plugs (motorcraft awsf-22c per recommendation by Crash!) and Accel plug wires. Went for a long test drive and it runs great! It is awsome! NO hesitation or pinging whatsoever! In fact, I have even more power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is something eles I have noticed this week, it appears that I am getting better gas mileage!!!!! It must be because my transmission does not kick down as much on the rolling hills to work?????

Yes, shout it from the roof tops...its fixed!!!!! Oh lord, I owe so many of you kegs of beer. But, since you can not be here I will have one for you!!!!!!

Ironhorse,

Congrats on a job well done. Glad to see you got all those little quirks fixed. I read your other posts about smoking that chevy and you got me so psyched. I'm ready to start mine now. Oh wait, I guess I should buy one before I start ripping things apart.
Anyway, glad to see things went well.
Ray

Alright! It was something easy!

Now you're good to go.

It took me a couple weeks to get used to the set up. At first it felt like the truck was going to take off. I knew that this was the most powerful vehicle I've ever driven. I'm used to it now. It's still awsome but I know it's not going to take off or anything.

Ok. So when do we hear about white smoking the tires? I'm curious to hear how the auto reacts. With the manual it's pretty easy to light them up.

A word of advice. I know this from experience. We have a lot more power with the supercharger but there are still several cars that can take us. I think you can figure that your now over 300bhp. I think Flats Man dynoed at something like 287rwhp. A stock Mustang GT is at 260bhp but has a 1000lb weight advantage. I know that we can beat many of the "muscle" or "sports" cars out there. It's just a matter of dropping big $$$. You'll have your kills. There are many that we can, easily, beat.

Congratulations!

Wittom,

Thank you for all your help. Your posts are one of the main reasons why I went through with getting the supercharger. Without your help, I would not have finished this soon!!!!

I have not "floored" the gas pedal yet. When I went about /4 of the way down on the pedal at an intersection (before I changed the plugs and wires) it spun the tires through the intersection. It did not white smoke them, but they "squealed" ha!

As soon as I put it through its paces, I will post something. Again, thanks for taking the time and making the effort to provide very valuable insights. I did not have any friends in the garage with me when I put the kit in, but with f150 members like you, I did not feel alone during the install. That made a lot of difference for me! Have a great and save Labor Day weekend!
