5.4L 7# pulley installed

Well its aout time. I definitely suggest a pulley puller for those who plan on replacing their stock pulleys to a smaller pulley. Anyway, the pulley is definitely lighter that stock, besides that its a bit smaller. Install is straight forward. I can't wait till the morning.

Crash- Gap was reduced to 6.15mm. I think that the gap issue will not be a problem. I noticed that the stock pulley was a V ribbed and the Martin piece had a "small"flat top on the ribs, This should not matter I hope? I'll post my opinions tomorrow. I'll have
sweet dreams tonight.

BTW- I definitely need to do the electric fan mod.

W2B... This is Nodrive55
Do you have a page w/ pics?
If so could you direct me to them!

Just reading your stuff... we have about the same setup.

I'm assuming that you have the upgraded version M-90.
and that the gap seem to be fine? ie... not touching?

I am waiting on info and input before crash takes care of me.

Late...

PS: Did you do your own elbow port and polish?
If so, do you have any how to pics or info?

Late..

NODRIVE-

Try the link in my sig. I ported and polished by using 3" flap wheels, just like Neal. Not ure about if I have the new" M90".

Gap, "doesn't" seem to be an issues right now. Getting tighter though. Hope this helps!

Talking I never stopped grinning....

All I can say is holy ****! The throttle response has been improve greatly. This in fact that te blower is spinning faster now. Flats was right about the instant boost comment he made. She is alot more responsive for the building of boost then the stock.

Crash and Martin Mfg. have got their stuff straight about this. For ANYONE with a Magnacharger installed, I would consider this as one of the best bang for the buck. The $170 spent for this is worth it in my opinion. I can only Imagine what the 9LB will do for me.

Crash- How soon will you have the 9LB ready for me? I want to be able to try both at the same time at the dyno for data info. I wat to ave them done on the same day. Their located about 1 1/2hours away from home. Do you think think that Mike would go for a swap of my superchip with a flip chip for both pulleys? I did not notice any belt rubbing after I inspected it. I was getting 7lbs of boost at WOT and she felt like she wanted more. I am very satisfied with the pulley itself and recommend it whole heartedly to ALL Magnacharger users! Keep up the good work Derek!!

BTW- What changes are with the 4th gen blower?

So all I need is a 3" flap wheel...
How much larger in ".mm" do you think it is?

WTB... It is cool that you are one of the ones testing out the pulleys... along with Flats...and others.
Talk to Mike T. on the flip chip...who knows what a few kind words might get you??

Sup... Neal...are those pics of a ported out OEM TB.

I was told that the 80mm Holley TB that you are waiting for was an off the shelf TB for a mustang, that happened to work with their "Thunder" setup and the intake they manufactured for the kit... and that it is not an applicable part for our 150's???

Crash: Yes I am referring to the "updated drive".
So does Flats have the "older drive assembly", or is it just different for the 4.6L. Perhaps this is where I am getting confused.

Late...

PS: WTB / Neal / Crash / anyone... do you have some pics of where and how exactly to install the Boost gage.
How about a temp or A/F meter?

I have all three, and yet because of lack of time due to work, and lack of knowledgeof how to really do it... they sit.

Out....

Cool

Way2big-The funny part is that your comments were almost the same as mine two months ago when I first install the pulley. If you have a Magnacharger, it is by far the best bang for the buck. You have been bitten by the BOOST BUG!

Flats-

It was a pain! I bruises to prove it. Derek has definitely done his homework on this. Best Bang!

BTW, the stock pulleys sure make great paper weights don't they!

UPDATE- 9LB on the way Monday! This is going to be a good month

Man this stinks. I haven't even got the SC here and installed. I want the #7 pully!
So has this deemed the pully reliable? There aren't any issues that you guys can see for the future?
I guess I will run the SC stock for a little while before getting the 7. Then the 9? Is it going to be safe for the 4.6?
This is tough. The anticipation is killing me! I guess every one has to suffer through it.

Thanks guys for sharing you r experiances. It helps to get me through to the day that I am blown!

Tom

Cool

HI!... NODRIVE55 : I was told by HOLLEY that the BILLET 80MM TB was custom made just for the "THUNDER" supercharger kit. It has a different part# than the one for the MUSTANG. It uses the stock TPS on your stock TB and their linkage has been calibrated to work with the factory throttle cables and cruise control cable. The problem with the 80MM HOLLEY TB is that it won't bolt up to the stock 4.6/5.4 TB elbow, because the bolt pattern is wider. You also must port/polish the TB ELBOW out to 80MM to match the HOLLEY TB. My TB ELBOW has already been ported/polished out to 80MM. All I have to do is fabricate up a adapter plate fron 1/4 aluminum and bolt it on.

Yes that is a ported/polished out stock 70MM FORD TB.

whittom-

I wold wait till your warrany goes out of your new blower before going to the upgrade. Take advantage of the time for the warranty to run out to plan your upgrade priorities. Order one if you want but I would wait to install it till after.

After 1 day of daily driving this, I have to admit that I am a bit "aggressive" now with my new founf power. Not acting dumb by any means but once you feel the potential, you can stop!

So far there have not been any issues, besides lower MPG (heavy foot) but when you have this much invested in your truck, why not! Surprised the **** out of a Gator and a Tahoe. They were "disappointed" with the lack of ability. HEHE!

Way2big-Have you put the 9 lb on yet? How is your belt clearance issue? If you have it installed, what does it drive like on the 5.4L?
I have resolved what I am going to do about my exhaust! I bought a bar of stainless 3.5 inches in diameter and Martin Manufacturing is going to machine me a set of exhaust traps to go into my stainless tips. These traps will have five different diameter opening plates that can be changed out to tune the exhaust. We will start with the same restriction I had before the exhaust change and go up in four stages after that. I will then go to the dyno and make a run with the most restrictive pair of restricter plates and change out the plates after each run to obtain a trend. This will be a permanent part of my truck. When I install the blower heads then I may be able to go back to the exhaust without the restricters. Of course I will take the install pictures!

Flats-

Starting a new thread on the 9lb pulley install i did this afternoon.

I ran into a problem tonight with the intercooler. Theres a leak somewhere, got coolant pooling on top of the blower housing and on top of my block.

With this said, I DO NOT believe that it is due to the 7lb pulley installed. The pulley itself is performing perfectly! This is a great upgrade for those want a bit more out of their blower. I do suggest access to a pulley puller.

Flats-

I had a similar setup with my z-28. Had a Borla cat-back with 4 interchangable restricter plates. I always had it wide open though.

Speaking about blower heads, you know 5.4L heads available yet? Or is all you can do is port and polishing? Thanks, Willard
