Cool 9 lb pulley for Magnacharger!

I don't have any info yet as I just put the pulley on and will not test drive until tomorrow. I will try for a dyno run this next week. I will post my impressions on this new thread. I am having a Bassani X pipe with dual Magnapacks installed on the 18th so I will try to get the dyno before that so that we can see the gains between the 7 lb and 9 lb pulleys.

I just got back from my first run at WOT from 2nd to 3rd shifting at 5400 rpm. What are my impressions....Holy S--t Bat Man! First my street impressions. When you punch this pulley around town it goes right to 8 lbs instantly. Traction is a big problen from a light if you get on it. For every day use around town you will see more like 7 lbs unless you really have a lead foot. As I said before, you instantly get 8 lbs and today as I ran out to 5400, it shifted at 9 lbs. I have never heard my blower sound like that before. The only way I can describe it is that it sounded just like the Lightnings that are running larger pulleys. I will be scheduling a dyno next week to check pulse width and F/A before I change exhaust systems. Remember I am still running 19 lb injectors and have a single in dual out exhaust like the majority of you on this board so I think you can expect simular results. No, I am not taking this one off my truck!

You sure know how to make a grown man drool.

With the 9lb pulley, would the stock injectors handle it? All I have is the blower kit. everything associated with it is bone stock. What would you suggest for me before I buy! Thanks!

HI!... FLATSMAN : I told you once you installed that 9lb pulley you would never re-install the 7lb one!

Now where did my credit card go? I need a MAGNACHARGER!

Way2big-I am trying to give these results on the 19 lb injectors because that is what most of us have. You need to talk to Crash and Mike Troyer. They are the brains, I just get to play with this stuff. I am getting by with the injectors because of the FMU. Mike and Crash can explain it for you. I know the 7 lb pulley is a solid performer in our Magnachargers and I will know how close to the edge I am with the 9 lb, as far as pulse width and F/A ,after the dyno next week. We are plowing new ground!

Neal- All I can tell you is that the sound of the blower was awesome! After the dyno, the X pipe and duals will be installed. I will be expecting 300 + RWHP with that set up!

Way2big- after rereading your post and profile I caught that you have only the blower and not the extra boost fuel pump and the FMU?

With the FMU your 19's are fine. Remember we are running 9psi with the ATI. As long as the fuel air is fine do not worry. I will be running mine on the Dyno feb 2nd. I got three runs. Run one will be bone stock no belt. Run 2 will be blower only. Run three will be with chip and custom code. Unfortunatly I will not have the tranny or cold air setup installed but that means I can just play on the dyno a little more.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Crash, I will dyno with the local Lightning club so someone should have an Mpeg. I will definitely try to get video and sound. I am meeting with the guys for lunch today along with Randy.

Wat2big-You can't go wrong with the 7 lb pulley! Talk to Mike T or Crash. We have some guys that have been running 12 lbs on a stock motor although I am stopping at 9 lbs. I feel the 7 lb is very conservative and once it is on your truck, you will never go back to the stock pulley.

Thanks for all your input. Thing that makes me wonder is that the $10 difference between the 7lb & 9Lb pulley. "smart" money says go all the way to 9lbs. I hardly ever go WOT. Due to it being a daily driver I can't afford for it to blow up on me. Mike or Crash, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Guys!!

I took Randy Martin of Martin Manufacturing for a little test hop with the 9 lb pulley and he was impressed! I also cooked some rice on the way home. Look at it this way, You have a beautiful Expy with some really great mods on it and which ever way you go, you will be happier than you are with the stock pulley. Get all the input you can and you will make the right choice!

I just completed a nice day with the local Lightning Club. I drove from my house to Silver Springs Fl for a round trip of 260 miles with the 9 lb pulley and 4:10 gears. My gas milage was 15.8 MPG which is good considering all the "horse play" that went on. My thoughts are that if I were to go on a long trip, I would prefer the 7 lb pulley to the 9 lb. I cruised at 75 to 80 mph and showed about a -2 on the boost gauge. With the slightest pressure on the pedal you go to + boost. This is no big deal but that kicks on your intercooler so it just kind of cycles on and off. With the 7 lb there is more margin at those speeds so it would cause less cycling of the intercooler pump. I think the 9 lb is great for the track or around town but on long trips at highway speeds I vote for the 7 lb. Just my thoughts.

Hi Crash, Almost all of the Lightnings in the club have about 100 RWHP on me so the Lightning is King as far as I am concerned. The 9 lb has closed the gap a little though. I will give you a call later.
