2015 2.9 Whipple Instal

Hi, I put this thread on another forum I frequent and I wanted to share here as well because I could not find many people doing this and I wanted to share my experience with all my F150 friends

So, I'm finally getting around to starting a build thread for the install of my 2.9 Whipple supercharger. I started Friday 10/2/15 and probably have 4-5 hours into it. Everything is going well at this point, directions have been spot on up to this point.

I took pictures of all the pieces for anyone interested to see. Extremely high quality pieces I can tell you this is one thought out kit and is complete with everything you would ever want.

I did have to get some additional miscellaneous items such as:

1. Oil & Filter although not required I thought I'd change to full synthetic
2. OEM 50/50 Orange coolant for radiator & intercooler system
3. Assembly lube for O rings and such
4. Carb cleaner for cleaning of manifold before install of SC
5. Redline Water Wetter for radiator & intercooler system
6. OEM EcoBoost Lower Grill (need opening for air to reach heat exchanger)

Though I would start out with a dyno run of my truck prior to install. She only has 2,500 miles on her and besides the Solo Performance Dual Exit cat back exhaust she is otherwise stock (and lifted 6" w/ 35" tires)

Two pulls on the dyno

Engine bay prior to start

The beautiful 2.9

Massive throttle body

Dual fans & heat exchanger

Billet fuel rails

Intercooler reservoir

Air intake tube

Air box and filter

Bosch intercooler pump

Another batch of pictures

Fan Harness and other wiring

Hose kit nicely labeled

More hoses nicely labeled

Assortment of parts in the kit

This it the fuel module that needs to be unplugged to relieve fuel pressure in the line before starting install. It is located just above the rear of the fuel tank on top of the crossmember

Took the grill out to help me reach the engine better. Worked great so I can stand/kneel on bumper

Length of hose to assist with a clean drain of radiator

This is where I stopped for now, no going back now lol

Here she will sit for a few days of work before I pick up the install again

Well, progress was made today

Where I started today. I ended up having each knock sensor leave the back of the valley on their own sides. I just felt this worked better but I forgot to take a picture

Gaskets installed

The provided MAP sensor in place

Fuel rails assembled

Fuel rails in place

The underbelly of the blower

The massive intercooler

Lower manifold/intercooler installed. Now we are getting somewhere

Pulley bracket assembled

Assembled

Filled with oil

Blower in its home

Where I ended for the day. Serpentine belt is in place and the blower itself is 90% done. Just need to connect heater hoses then I'm on to installing the heat exchanger, reservoir and hoses then the TB, intake and fans with wiring. With a little luck I'll Finnish all that tomorrow.

Well, day 3 completed yesterday

Reservoir & pump assembled

Reservoir in place

Heat exchanger in place

Front view w/ fans

Where I ended up for the day

All that's left is to assemble throttle body, install air box and run the wiring for fans & pump. Hopefully I get my tune emailed to me so I can fire her up the day I Finnish.

looks great.

When are you going to get some dyno pulls? are you going with whipple tune or going to get a custom tune?

i really want to do something like this on my next new truck, that way i enjoy the power for the 5 to 6 years I own it.
i have tried the project car thing, new motor, having something older and unique...overrated. give me a fun, fast daily driver and something I enjoy 7 days a week. I love my corvette but I spend all my time in my f150.

It's going on the Dyno Thursday next week and I will be sure to post results. I am staying with the Whipple tune as it runs and drives like stock and I wouldn't want anyone else's.

Slick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great build man! Your probably the only lifted, and supercharged 2015 F150 in MA..

So how's the power? How does that 5.0 like it?
I'd wait the custom tune out a little while and let the tuners get their hands dirty on someone else's truck for now. I'd hate to be a victim of someone's learning curve with that PCM and 6 speed.. Although I bet it's the same as the previous model, I'd still let the blower and motor break in a while on the whipple tune.

She looks like she really boots in that video.. Whipple certainly looks to be achieving better and better build quality as time progresses..

I've been wanting one of those new 15's but not too keen on the price of a lariat, or a frivolous new car payment.. Are they worth it? I've yet to test drive one.

I'm also whipple blown and from MA..
I'm interested in what your all in price was for the blower and truck.

I still like the project builds.. They pay off pretty well if you build a chevelle, camaro, nova etc into a daily driver with say a t56 and FI vette ls6 motor.. Those old cars don't tank in value like the new(er) cars and trucks, and they certainly are not getting any cheaper depending on the year and make..
Although I won't argue that being boosted in a brand new truck with all the bells and whistles is still a better daily driver experience.

Power is unbelievable and the 5.0 absolutely loves the blower. In fact I believe the 5.0 is among the most improved engine s/p blower out there. It responds like no other motor.

I will definitely stay with Whipple tune. One, I'm not racing my truck. Two, their tune is dialed in so good I wouldn't even consider changing.

In my opinion there is not a better built system on the market. The parts are better than OEM quality and the tune is made by a genius.

I have had numerous F150's over the last 30 years and this is by far the best truck I have ever had. I absolutely love it.

The kit starts at $7,295 and is customized based on options from there. Lethal Performance often has a nice discount running and it's a great time to scoop one up.

This is my 3'rd Whippled vehicle. My first was an 05' mustang which I sold to a buddy. The second is my 15' GT Mustang and now this truck. I am without a doubt a Whipple customer for life.

What vehicle do you have a Whipple on?

Your last sentence is my driving point. I wanted something I could drive every day, rain sleet or snow that is supercharged and the Platinum F150 is the perfect fit for me. Simply puts a smile on my face the second it fires over.

If I want to shred some tires and rip the streets up I take my Whippled mustang out when the weather is good

My (04)-08 F150 is a crew cab lariat 5.4 3v and is whippled at 9psi.. As a daily driver it's a dream.. Perfect manners and gobs of power.. I don't think I'd drive another gas truck that isn't whippled at this point.. She's been great in every element, especially in those 3 and 4 foot nor- Easters. I think I will eventually own a 2015 f150, but I will never be selling this one.

Sounds like you got yourself a pretty sweet fleet at your disposal!
