what power level are you looking for after the engine is built?
what is it capable of? |
After it's built I would like to see 550rwhp. I'm getting manley h beam rods rated to 900hp and probably mahle pistons. So it should take whatever I'll throw at it.
What is everyone running for trans coolers? I'm looking to tackle that soon as the stock one will have to be moved for the intercooler to be in place. |

All depends on the AR housing and bearings. I'm not familiar his brand turbo (specs wise) |

I'm not a mechanic, but each time I see people with turbos they shoot for a 1XXXhp, not 5xxhp. my small Roush blower (1.85L) can do 500hp, so I'm thinking that you'd be shooting for a lot higher, no? what would be the reasons for not going for a 1000hp? unless you don't upgrade your fuel system and I'd understand why, but in that case why build an engine if you stay at half of its capacity? |

do you mind enlighten me as to why you don't want to do more than 550rwhp?

Basically I can see why he goes for "only" 550. Myself and going for 1000ish in a project but it's easier (I think) to start from the ground up with this power level in mind as to modifying a vehicle to support that kind of power. Garrett recommends an 82mm for 500 crank hp. I think sts used an eighty something mill too. |
I'm just wanting to have a fun driver without having to worry about breaking something that's all.
Sorry it's been so long I got to many projects going on at once. I got the cold side figured out and paint the turbine housing, but that's all. It's not letting me insert the pictures for some reason though. |
So are you officially mounting the turbo where the air filter filter draws in cold air from the fender? Right behind the drivers headlamp I guess?
|
Have you figured out what you are doing for the hotside? I was thinking of doing flipped shorties like the foxbodies do.i have no idea if it would work tho?
|
Nice build!
Just keep chipping away at it. |
The turbo will be mounted right in front of the engine right in the middle.
The hotside, I'm going to put the stock manifolds back on and have it merge into a single 2.5" piped on the passenger side and ran up toward the front. The downpipe will be a single 3" dumped into the passenger side fender well. |
There isn't enough room to flip the manifolds or shorty headers in these trucks.

This project is currently on hold as I am now building a 88 mustang gt.
|
I have finally continued with this build. Plans changed quite a bit. I am using a 70mm turbo, made a set of log style headers, have a precision wastegate running an 8psi spring, and 3" downpipe to the roush catback. Have the hot side made and the truck is running but not making boost yet. I wanted to get it back where I could drive it and then work on the intercooler piping, fuel system, etc.

Electric fan install. From a 2010 f150 https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...30ea4283ee.jpg Starting on the crossover pipe. Using 2\". Passes between the block and ac lines. Had the reroute the ac a little bit https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...d1cbdf4836.jpg Turbo mocked up in place https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...4c5d988f2b.jpg Merge for the crossover. 2\" pipe merges to a 2"x3" into the turbo flange. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...a0ce5aeda6.jpg Turbo mounted with the wastegate welded on. Starting on the downpipe. Super tight around everything https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...7bf00bb942.jpg 3\" downpipe snakes around everything. It is super tight. |
