So how much do oil changes cost you typically?
I have a major question to ask now that I've seen some of the results here, I recently changed my oil, did Valvoline 5w20, 5 quarts of that, 1 quart of lucas oil additive. What's your guys' opinion on the additive? I'm sure that it might have thrown off my weight a little bit but I figured I'd just try it out.

Normally I don't use oil additives, but if I did it would probably be Lucas. I do use their fuel system treatment on a regular basis though.

rev x is the bomb diggity for oil additives.

Ford diesel guys have been using it for years, I started putting it in my gas motors and you can INSTANTLY tell a difference.

My oil changes cost an avg of $42. I buy the 5qt container at Walmart for $26 and the K&N oil filter at advance for $11 using the P20 discount online. The truck holds 6qts so I start out buying 2each 5qt containers of oil. The first container all goes in obviously and I add 1qt from the 2nd container. The second container will last for 5 oil changes. Compared to buying just one extra qt it's a big savings. 5qts for $26 or idividual qts for $8-9.

As for additives I'm not a fan. No offense to anyone. However you can never have to much protection. But I feel that if an oil doesn't offer what I need then why use it? I'd switch to an oil with a better formulation. Just my thinking.

When I was in school we had a lecture on oil and I learned some interesting things I would like to share. My $.02...

I will keep it short here because I do not want to dominate this thread. We learned that Valvoline and Castrol had the best properties and were top recommended. I choose Castrol myself. Next, we learned after cutting up filters and independent testing that WIX made the best filter at the time, although technology has progressed. WIX, K&N and the Ford Racing filters were top on the list. I stick to the 820 S and have used it in 5 supercharged F-150s and I drive them hard with no failures.

Lucas makes a good product. I have yet to use it however I have used Slick 50. Testing showed Slick 50 proved to provide the best protection. And yes, you can run 5 quarts of the oil of your choice and add the additional quart of Slick 50 and leave it in there. Just make sure your engine break-in is complete before adding it.

Again, I resist the debate, I am simply posting facts learned in the classroom. Hope this helps!
Agreed Banshee has got a nice rig

As for oil we can debate all day. And one oil company does this test and another one does that test. Then they claim how much better they are. Then you read the fine print and it's some off the wall test with only one grade of oil. Not across the board. They all do it some worse then others. I don't buy in to any test performed by or paid for buy an oil company.

The government has put regulations on what can be in oil....

The additives put back in what the Gov took out.

Ford diesel injectors have issues, their are only 2 known cures. Replace the injectors or add Rev X.

Jason, been using Blackstone for a while and check my Tranny and Eng every 20K or so. I run the Full Syn from Ford with the Ford Filter. Change the Oil every 5K and tranny fluid 50K. Your results look great. Here's mine.

Blackstone-labs

I bought their vacuum pump and take the sample from the dip-stick tube.

I just emailed them and they send you a container, another container inside a container, with a spill cloth , & a zip lock bag. No charge for that. When you change your oil about halfway through the drain you collect a few ounces, package it up, and send it off.

I would suggest the Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w20. Really any fully synthetic 5w20 will do. As you can see it's done a hellbof a job protecting mine.
