Supercharger in the mud?
Supercharger in the mud?
Hey guys,
I'm looking at a lifted 94 lifted on 35's id be putting it in the mud, it has a lightning 351 with a super charger. How durable are they? I kinda see this as a week spot as I dont know much about super chargers. Any 2 cents would be great,
Thanks!

The problem with these older models are that the trucks were speed density systems, as opposed to mass air systems a few years later. These supercharger kits used a FMU (fuel management unit) to step up pressure to the fuel injectors. With speed density, you will not be able to get a tune that can step up the power for more boost. This setup provides little opportunity for upgrades, so keep that in mind. I'm not sure how durable a centrifugal setup will be in a mud type environment, but Crash can probably answer that.
Thanks for all the help guys ! and sorry for the late response crash I dont get on here much, I wont be able to see the truck til next week,
However is the conversions or anything that necesary or is it a highly reccomended thing? I was kinda thinking about the snorkle too

Im going to do as little to this truck as possible lol, already on 6" and 35's , the lightning 351 engine, lockers and 4.10 gears, probably swa a solid axle, maybe the snorkle and call it a day.
Never even drove something super charged but the guy says this thing is quick, cant wait to test drive it

If at all possible make sure that your supercharger runs on a separate belt system. If it fails/seizes up you can remove the belt and run N/A. That will at least get you home. Carry extra water to clean the pulleys of mud. If they cake up you can jump the belt off the pulley or even snap it. I have played in the mud with my Procharger and so far so good. If you run a snorkel be sure to get one that is of sufficient diameter so as to not restrict air flow to the blower.
EDIT: As Crash mentioned; Be sure to wash the fins of your intercooler or the dried up mud will cake on and eventually clog the air passages rendering it useless. The sooner after playing in the mud the better. Wet mud cones off a lot easier.

I'm curious if it is indeed a Lightning 351w, or just a 351w
also 35" tires and 4.10's, it won't be that fast and it'll be hard on transmissions expecially in the mud
