130psi across the board, what is your compression ratio in the 8.5:1? 130-150 is what my motor was with 192k miles on it number 1 cylinder broke a ring land in november and it made 75psi of compression. how much overlap is on your cams?

Motor is 8.4:1 compression. I have no idea about the cams. Troyer specd em out that's all I know. Is 130 a low number? I do know the CP pistons were custom made for that motor. Something about where the rings are located is one thing I think.

doubt the pistons were custom made. but aftermarket ring lands are larger than factory pistons on these mod motors.

Troyer said pistons were custom made for this motor, that's all I know. That's why I hope its not a piston. I can't argue with you guys cause yaul know tons more than I do. I can just go by what I am told. I just hope CP pistons still has the paperwork on them, cause VT Engines is who ordered them. I hope your right, and that it is an off the shelf item if it is indeed a piston.

Your probably right. I am most likely screwed. Oh well, story of my life. If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

One thing I wonder about though, is if cylinder compression is bad, why are 7 of them all at 130? Doesn't make sense to me that all of them would have been messed up the same except for 1 cylinder.

do the compression test again, with all of the plugs out and with the throttle cracked all the way open. another truck you can do is to spray WD40 down in each hole it will help seal the rings up. that should bring your compression readings up. it is also possible that the gauge you are using is off or the fitting isnt sealing good inside the head. another test is a leak down test where you apply shop air to each hole and see how long it takes to bleed down the air. but you want each piston at TDC so both valves are closed.

Look, below 150 PSI is time for a rebuild unless there is so much overlap in the cams. And I have yet to see that happen or hear anything of it. A Triton will make 180 PSI on a compression test and a vacuum guage should pull 22" vacuum at idle with stock cams. IF THE engine is in good condition.
Different shop is doing the probe tomorrow, so I will get him to check em with his gauge. I can only hope for the best.

That's one problem I don't have. At least I think.

Just wanted to chime in for latest update on truck. It is now officially named MONYPIT, cause that's what it is. I had to send it back to troyer Tuesday to try to find out why it has problems in cylinder #2. I couldn't find anyone around here that would touch it with a ten foot pole. They all say the same thing when I ask what they think caused all of this, but I think its best if I don't say who they blame it on. God only knows how extensive the damage is, but I hope its just a valve. Either way motor has to come out of truck, so I am hoping to have it back by the 4th of July if I am lucky, but remember I have no luck when it comes to that truck.
