To Supercharge or not ?

I been thinking about how to get more HP and TQ....I tow a 8000 lb camper 6 or 8 times a year. Most of the time it's alright except the long mountains following my buddies with there desiels . My truck has 90,000 would it need rebuilt first and what is a good supercharger kit I could get,,since it would be cheaper that a new truck,,,thanks

At 90000 I think it would be a good Idea to have a basic rebuild done if your not going to run high boost levels. If your going to run high boost levels ,forged internals is a must.

I Have a whipple on my truck with 4.88 gears, and air bags. The thing tows like a beast! my boat is about 8,000lbs when loaded with gear . I run 75-80 at 1/4 throttle. I havent towed through the mountains yet, Next June we are headed to Lake Powell so i will put it to the test then.......

The tune that whipple uses is horrible i would sugest getting a custom tune if you go that route.

I say no. 7 to 8 year old truck , save the money

what rear gears do you have? going to a 4.10 would help. look at tow ratings and changing the rear gears get the biggest results.

had a centrifugal and at 2500 to 3000 rpm it did nothing, towed a 5000 pound trailer and i could not really see a difference.

to me a boat pulls different than a TT, the TT has the aero dynamics of a brick , the boat cuts the air so much better.

if you did rebuild the motor, you have to know the trans is right behind it. figure in a rebuilt trans, rebuilt motor, cost of SC and cost of installation and tune, you end up with a 8 year old truck that you put over 10k in that is still an 8 year old truck. at 7 to 8 years old realistically small things are going to start going wrong.

seriously work up a budget as to what it will all cost. if you have 10k to 12k cash and love the truck then that is up to you.

I'd be a bit more worried about the cooling system and trans temp. Pulling high into the mountains will create a ton of heat. I know when I pull anything with a good amount of weight to 7K feet the truck gets really hot.

my trans runs cooler on the highway once I added boost as it maintained OD on all the hills
