transmission gear doesnt effect how fast the driveshaft turns, its dependent on differential gearing, and vehicle speed.


And Huitt, there's a good driveline shop near 183 and 35. Not sure if its still open or not tho. They do heavy truck driveshafts. They did my old roomate's cut and custom U joint perch after he swapped a SRT axle in his regular cab hemi

Okay no problem, but I think the point was that it would require me to be in OD to get to 130 mph!

I don't know the math, but maybe I should figure out where the 6K RPM limit will be achieved.

4.11 rear gear.

Falken 305/40/23

One spec. says 32.61" and another is 32.8", so not sure, but lean towards to the .61.

in 3rd you'd have to do 141mph at 1:1 to get the driveshaft to 6k
and in 4th (OD) you'd have to do a hair over 200 to get the driveshaft to 6k

good luck with that.. ask pat i battled it for many years trying to stick with a single shaft.. 2 piece is the way to go for high speeds.. the limits for a 1 piece is 59" no matter the diameter.. any longer and you get whipping which is what causes the vibrations.

Thanks, but I'll only be trying it one time. If it doesn't work, I'll just have them build me a 2-piece.

BTW, what were the specs. of the different shafts you tried and by who? Were they all DS Specialist or many vendors?

Engine speed and drive shaft speed are going to be two different things. The drive shaft is not going to be turning 6,000 rpm at different speeds because the overdrive ratio only affects the speed of the crankshaft, not the drive shaft. The drive shaft speed is going to be a direct correlation to vehicle speed. Engine speed is going to be irrelevant. The only factors that enter into this calculation are tire diameter and rear end gear ratio. I figure that you'd hit a drive shaft speed of 6,000 rpm at about 153 mph. At 200 mph, the drive shaft would be spinning at 7,843 rpm, if it held together. I think it's safe to say you won't hit 153 mph under any circumstances.

On another note; I won't know about their DS for awhile, but their customer service (delivery) is outstanding. I ordered it Wed. (6/15); and my wife told me it arrived today (6/21)!

Would be waste of a good run. Get a fuel system and head for the upper 160's. With the 4.11's and a 32" tire you can easily hit 169mph in od at around 5400 rpm. It's a wicked ride
