Post instalation of holley thunder done--long

supercharger in--looks good--sounds good--but most of all(so far 4 days) works good. have 3 new gauges on piller- boost, water, and oil pressure.
Now for some of the bad news--instructions for 2001 f-150 were very outdated and therefore very bad. had many changes to make in kit supplies. holley tech was very good, but we spend way to much time on phone with them.
some of the changes
1. hoses--did not fit properly in many cases.
2. air intake brackets did not fit.
3. had to make special bracket for in tank fuel pump.
4.bolts to hold charger on motor were too long.
5.had to indent back fire wall at top a wee bit(quarter inch(done with one hammer blow-lol)
6. due to computer--truck wouldn't start unless new oil gauge sensor was grounded to old sensor.(heck of a time finding that but when phoned holley tech knew it right away.)
really above is just examples of many minor problems, on instuctions and parts.

Bad maintence news---every 7500 miles supposed to change gear case oil--the only way is to take the top of charger off and tip the whole thing on its side to drain the case.

well in short guys--i love the way it works, but i'm sure there is a better way to go.

To change the oil you may want to invest in a vampire pump. That way you just drop a small hose into the case and draw it out.

That raises an interesting question - just how do you change the oil on the Magnacharger kit? I can't imagine you would have to remove the whole assembly.

I have a Kenne-Bell and it has a drain hole plug to drain the oil at every 12,000 miles.

Had some of the problems you mention installing in my 00 HD, but have over 3000 mi with the Holley SC and no problems at all, and as I am sure you will find out, the difference is amazing. Glad I read your post, since the 7500 mi oil change was not mentioned to me, and will look into the "Vampire" pump situation.

thanks for the advice on vampire pump---now all i have to do is find one--or make one up out of something---lol.

crash i think (don't know for sure) that holley has to many irons in the fire to really worry about the chargers, and magnacharger only worries about their chargers, and therefore do a much better job of it. i prob should have brought my truck to you, to install a magnacharger and will suggest that to others--not that i don't like what i have, but with the probs we had with it--who knows it may develop some real problems in the future( right now i love it, but it makes me wonder if they don't pay enough attention to the instructions--maybe they didn't pay enough attention to the charger)

i am surprized about magnachargers responds concerning the gear case oil, i would think it should be changed in case of metal shavings wear on the impellers. Ask again will you crash--lol it just doesn't sound right , but i sure wish holley had told me that---lol.

By the way guys, just as an aside about this issue of replacing the Supercharger lubricant on Eaton superchargers, like the Magnacharger...............

Years ago, Jerry Magnuson & factory service manuals for vehicles like the Thunderbird Super Coupe that used that Eaton blower said to change that synthetic blower build at I forget, something like 40K mile intervals. They later changed this to say *not* to change that fluid *ever*, and so I too was a bit confused about that a few years ago when this happens, about 5-6 years ago.

If Crash says that Magnuson says not to change it, then that is indeed what they're saying. Me personally, I used a suction/syphon pump (which is I guess what you mean by that Vampire pump) and pumped that fluid out, and replaced it. I ordered it thru my local Ford dealer since it was for the Tbird Super Coupe, and it wasn't cheap, that synthetic is very expensive. We'd then pump the old fluid out & in with the new.

Over a long period of time, that fluid will eventually become discolored, and you might want to change it, that's up to you. The bottom line is that I would defer to Crash's expertise on this one, guys.

Just FYI...........

Talking update on holley

just a short update on the holley supercharger that i installed in 2001----no problems at all---works great. only maintence was to changed gear oil at 8000 miles.
don't have any dyno reading on it, but happy with the extra power and performance.
i only have 17000 miles on my truck. i guess not much could go wrong with it in that amount of mileage, but thought i'd update my post.

Notice that I originallly replied to this post, so will update mine also. Have approx 13,000 miles on my truck. Blower has been sent back to Holley to be repaired, total cost involved approx $800.00, intercooler also went out, and the supplier that made it for Holley is out of business, so had a local radiator shop repair it, cost approx $400.00 including R&R labor. My opinion Piece of you know what.
