2003 F-150 5.4 with lightning supercharger

Hey guys here is the question. I am in the process of putting a lightning supercharger on my truck. I have the k and n intake kit, the 255 lph fuel pump. I have the sct x2 and I was looking for a tune for it, the question I have is would I be safe to just get a custom tune and put it on my truck or would everyone recomend to get it tuned by a shop with a dyno and all that. I talked to the dynoshop in santee and they said a rough estimate for a tune and the dyno would be around 800-1200. I called Troyer today about the tune by itself but they haven't called me back with a price yet.

Wow , you better find a better dyno shop!
That price is ridiculous.
There's a lot of places that will send you a tune. Find one that dose a good job and that other people have had good experiences with.
After ya get it all running , your gonna want to know how much power your making anyway . So just put it on a dyno,,,and make sure they check the air/fuel during the pull to be sure it's safe.

alright thanks for the advice. I was just trying to see if it was safe to run it with just the tune and not get it dynoed. What tune do you have?

800 for a programmer and dyno tune is about the going rate out here for a good tune if you ask me. 350 for the XCal and 500 for a dyno tune....

If you already had the Xcal then thats FN nuts!

yes I already have the sct x cal he said I would need to bring that then it would be 800-1200 depending on how long it took them. Seems pretty high. I'm in San diego. That price was from "The dynoshop" in santee

I've got 60,000 miles on my truck without getting dytnoed. First tune was mail order. Next tune was from guy that has dynoed tunes, but not on my truck, only data logged my truck. Unless your racing or want to bragg about horsepwoer, dyno not required. Woodbine Motorsport in Maryland did my last tune.

so I called troyer and they said 350 for a tune but it would take 8-12 weeks or longer. So now I'm gonna look around for something that doesn't take as long.

Since you're down San Diego ways, give Dante's Modular Performance a try. just google em, I was going to take my truck down there but it was too far for me. That shop is really popular with the Lightning guys.
