IAT's and what is normal while cruising...no WOT runs.
Hi Guys,
question on IATs... I recently installed a gauge that monitors IATs among other things and was wondering what is a normal range while just cruising? I do have the supercharger over spun, I went from around 6psi to 12psi. I noticed yesterday the IATs were in the low 100s and the temps were in the low 60s, I was just cruising along about 65 mph, and this was not going into boost or anything, just a steady speed on the highway.
Thanks

I'm not an S/C guru, but I think if you could please provide some more info, the fellas that are can help.
- what kind of S/C
- intercooler, what type, if any
- where is the IAT sensor mounted
- how are you reading ambient
FWIW, a 40 degree delta sounds kinda high while not under boost ...
Thanks

Yeah I kind of forgot the important part.
the supercharger is a magnuson
intercooler is what came with the kit not too sure of type
the IAT is mounted towards the front (drivers side) on first runner (post compressed) we had to move it for the magnuson install
ambient I get from temp gauge from the truck temp sensor
sounds about where mine is 40 degrees over ambient ....but my kit is known for poor cooling of the charge
I need to upgrade heat exchanger and cooliant tank (more volume)
the cooler the charge = HP

With the same setup-except 7psi- I would see IAT's at WOT in the 130-140 range with ambient in the 80's. I never really logged them at cruise but your readings do seem a little high. I recently took the blower out of the lower manifold just to check things over and the intercooler core is the same size as the stock one on my brothers lightning so should be fine. Mines goin back on this week or next and Ill let you know what readings I get.
I checked and it is circulating, the instructions call for a 50/50 mixture which is what I have in there.

Hard to believe how much heat these twin/roots blowers put out. Centri's and turbo's just don't have the problem.
On my older turbo mustang the IAT was only 20-30 over ambient at full boost.

mines roughly the same im more like 30 over, 60F outside i normally see 90. All tho when its cold out side i am able to stay 20 over, pretty nice. but i also have a custom two core Heat exchanger and larger res. tank. During the summer, it is just horrible, i cant stand driving the truck during the summer.
Im really curious to see what your temps are under 12psi!

Have a look at methanol injection.

What a trip!

May be a stupid Question, but is it possible for use to do this?

How would the methanol injection work say if you are on a long, long road trip? This is of course not going into boost except to pass the occasional slow poke or the bone head who cuts me off and I want to put my borla in their ear. Would you have to stop and refill the tank and such when only cruising?
I do like that killer chiller and was wondering how much difference there is between the NBS trucks and lightnings as far as connecting the thing up.
and Weazel that is way beyond my skilz and attention span...

I have a Saleen SC on my Mustang pushing around 6lbs boost and my IATs are usually around 20 deg F over ambient. I also have a small electric fan over the intercooler for airflow when in stop & go traffic.
Well 6lb's doesn't create that much heat, it's the 12-16lbs that does.
