Horsepower Goodies

Well my Dynptech headers, Zone 5 Mega Driver, & GT500 Fuel pumps have arrived. Still waiting on the y-pipe, high flow cats, and 3.125 pulley.

Nice! What made you decide on a Y opposed to true duals and an x or h pipe?

I want to bolt up to my side exit exhaust. True duals may make an extra 10hp but to me its not worth the expense or losing my dual side exit in front of the tire.

I'm sure it's worth more then 10hp. You will be surprised how much dual pipes helped. Flowing 400+rwhp in our trucks through a single 3" pipe is REALLY choking it. Honestly in our trucks, if you are looking to get anywhere between 450-500rwhp should really look into dual 3" exhaust. Also don't expect the headers to add gobs of peak hp/tq. It will be under the curve you will see the greatest change.

Also you might or might not need to look into some bigger injectors. Those 39# will probably work with increased pressure and opening them up 88-90% of the time, but they will be at their limit.

How are you going to mount the GT-500 fuel pumps?

Well my budget says the exhaust and injectors stay for now. Mr.Troyer said he ususally sees about a 10hp increase with an x-pipe and duals verses a y-pipe. Unless I misheard him. As for the pumps I thought they would be mounted in the assembly. I didn't know they were just loose so now have to figure that out. Any suggestions?

You might be able to use a metal clamp or two and attach it to the other pump in your assembly. Then just Y into the fuel output. Make sure you use the right hose for the "in-tank" setup.

10hp on what... a 400rwhp truck or a 450-500rwhp truck?

on a 400rwhp yes I can see that, 450+ that true dual will really start to take into effect. There is nothing wrong running that setup you have now, just know that there is more power there later on..

I have personally seen on a 500rwhp mustang just going from 2.5" to 3" exhaust pipe using the same mufflers(just 3" instead of 2.5") and same headers(BBK's that the ball/socket flange was cut off so it was a true 3" exit) gain 30rwhp on the dyno with no tune change.

Although I didn't get a dyno comparison on my truck, but when I went from a 3" y-pipe and magnaflow cat-back to 2.5" true duals I saw a HUGE increase in power in the butt-o-meter department.

I'll agree with you on that Justin. I used to run a single o/r y and just a single dynomax bullet. Number one it sounded horrible. Number two I lost a TON of low end. I'm not talking about just a little, I'm talking a huge difference off the line. So I changed back to true duals and a di/do obx muffler and it made a wooooorld of difference. You could still run true duals and an X and have it exit out the side. I don't know why would wouldn't be able to??
