Max psi

What is the max psi you can run on a brand new stock 4.6 motor. I know it depends on the tune but what can the stock pistons and rods with stand?

With a good tune 8 psi is easy. There is no such exact number anyway. Don't worry about the boost as much as making sure the tune is spot on. People have pushed as much as 12 psi though a 4.6L and had the engines hold up well.

8 is a good number, and yeah as said before its all in the tune.

i have a very safe and conservative tune, i told my tuner that my truck is a daily driver so he gave me the safest tune he could do.

Hm thats a tad disappointing. I was hoping to be able to run a few more psi without a forged bottom end.

8 psi with the proper supporting mods and tune will be plenty. Boost does NOT make horsepower.

I have been running close to 14# for about a year on an engine with about 70,000 mile wit no issues and a proper Troyer tune, although Mike has cautioned me that this is too much boost for a stock engine, I have installed a 928 Motorsports boost limiter valve and have the boost at about 12 pound depending on weather and temperature conditions. I have no issues and Mike knows that i take full responsibility if destruction happens. The engine has been supercharged for 5 years now, i have been steadily increasing the boost and also refining the tune.

this is also true.

before my maf extender the tuner turned down the timing and everything to where it only made 220rwhp at the same 8psi that makes 275rwhp now.

once i got the maf extender he was able to bump it up and says i could go higher but i told him id rather not for safety issues.

Im w/ Chuck. 12 psi is ideal on a stock block w/ a centri blower with the proper supporting mods(upgraded fuel system, larger injectors, and a maf that can handle it)..Ive been boosted for over 6.5 years on a stock block.

the block itself poses no issues. there is no difference, for example between a Lightning block, and a non-Lightning. the weakness in these stock motors is the pistons/rods. granted, putting too much power through the stock internals will probably net a hole in the block, but the block itself really is not a "weak component"
