P-1SC seals
P-1SC seals
The impeller side seal on my blower is leaking. How do I know? I did an oil change today and when I loosened the drain plug it went Psssssss..... The gear box is pressurized so the seal is allowing pressurized air to enter. Anybody know where to get a seal or a kit of some kind. I already e-mailed Procharger and I will follow up with a call on Monday. They will most likely have me send it in for a rebuild. I would rather do it myself. It would be faster and cheaper.

I called Procharger this morning and the tech said that a little seepage past the fill plug gasket was normal. Enough to push 5 oz past the gasket was not.
He estimated $140.00 to install a new seal. It will cost me at least that much just to ship it to them.

Ummmm....no. They all do that. Pressurized air isn't getting in (there's absolutely no way you are pushing that much boost for one thing)...that pssss sound is air re-occupying the partial vacuum caused when the air trapped last time the oil plug was opened was heated up by the internal gears and pushed pass the seal (which is part of the reason the units leak oil). It's normal with the P1-SC's.
Oh...and the seal part number is Napa part #11625. The P-600's and P1-SC's are not the same. Also...do NOT use that whole bottle of oil. Yes ProCharger says to, but at 3/4 bottle the dipstick is already at MAX level. Just like putting too much oil in a car engine, the extra oil just pushes out the seals and causes a leak.

JMC,
One thing that can force pressure into the head unit is compressor surge, which can ruin the seal much quicker. If your bypass is set to not open all the way that could be an issue.Regardless you need a new impellar seal if you lost 5 oz's of oil
,and unfortunately a small amount of leakage is normal w/ self contained centris. And worse is ati doesnt sell parts
Good luck

So far I don't have any compressor surge I now check the oil drain plug every day for signs of a leak. I have contacted a few venders on e-bay for prices on the seal. I started thinking of a way to vent the pressure from the housing. maybe a catch can of some kind.
