Testing Interest: STS Turbo Kit

Hi everyone, I am in the process of putting together information, pictures, and vids on the STS Turbo System for the F150's. I have obviously used my personal truck to see whether or not these things work and they really do. I would be more than happy to answer any questions, address concerns, and take pricing inquiries. I talked to STS last week and told them about the interest on this forum and I worked out a deal with them for "preferred" pricing for members for the next month or so. So if you guys need quotes, availability or further literature, let me know!

Okay, let me throw out some questions:

1). What kit (if any) is available for a 2004+ F150 5.4L?

2). What turbo configuration is used (ie. single, dual or compound)?

3). What brand of turbo is used (ie. Garrett, Mitsubishi, Holset)?

4). What turbo manifold design is used (ie. cast iron log, tubular) and where are the turbo(s) mounted?

5). Are wastegates controlled internally (within the turbo) or externally?

6). Is the kit intercooled, and if so by what means (ie. air to air, air to water, water injection)?

7). What engine and fuel manangement is included if any?

8). What are the specs on the turbo(s) (feel free to speak in advanced terms... I know my way around turbos and can read compressor maps if provided)?

9). How soon could a kit be available?

10). How much would I be looking to spend on a kit?

11). Will the turbo manifolds be available seperately?

2). What turbo configuration is used (ie. single, dual or compound)? Single

3). What brand of turbo is used (ie. Garrett, Mitsubishi, Holset)? Garrett (i think)

4). What turbo manifold design is used (ie. cast iron log, tubular) and where are the turbo(s) mounted? there is no turbo manifold, an STS is remote mount.

5). Are wastegates controlled internally (within the turbo) or externally? From what ive seen with sts products is they use external wastegates.

6). Is the kit intercooled, and if so by what means (ie. air to air, air to water, water injection)? no intercooler unless you want one.

7). What engine and fuel manangement is included if any?

8). What are the specs on the turbo(s) (feel free to speak in advanced terms... I know my way around turbos and can read compressor maps if provided)?

9). How soon could a kit be available?

10). How much would I be looking to spend on a kit? probably 3-5k

11). Will the turbo manifolds be available seperately? No turbo manifolds as its a remote mount setup.

so we'll let JDMsupra answer these questions. I'm just answering what i think i know.

Thanks for the quick response...

A big single would be a blast on a 5.4L 3v. Plenty of motor to spool that snail, and good head flow to make use of it.

i think a big single would be too big for remote mount though woudlnt it? because theres so much extra pipe and a long way for it to travel?

STS's website says that they size them for the application (just as we would a traditional mount) however they say that using the same size turbo a traditional setup to be used on a remote mount setup would have lot more lag. so if sized properly... there will be very little lag.

I'm interested, but what turbo sizing is available, and what kind of #'s can this kit provide? I'm wanting 700+hp out of a single setup, can there kit make it? And everyone wants some $$$$ numbers.

i think your going to need more than a turbocharger to get 700hp.

a built motor that can handle all that psi and power first of all.

unless you've got that already taken care of well then yeah.. throw on a turbo and pump it up to 18-20psi and see what it makes

a navigator 5.4l which is a 4 valve i think. would be awesome in ur f150

Forged 4.6 Stroker(297 CID), Full Port and Polish Heads, Cower St 3 cams, and a little bit more. I have been toying with a 4v, but to much work, and what not. The bottom end is rated at 1000+, so my only limit will be what the trans will hold, which looks like 700ish is max, but there is no reason the setup won't be capable of 800hp, so I'll see where it goes.

good..

good luck with this, might not be as easy as it sounds.

and if u dont go with sts theres no reason why u shouldnt build your own kit. its actually pretty easy.

It will not be hard, just $$$$$, but I'm a Ford Tech so parts are cheaper, and they don't make a truck that I can go out and buy, that will perform the way I want to. I will be building the whole kit, but it would be nice to get STS' oiling setup, wastegate, turbo, lines, etc all as one kit. It would def. save some $$$$, and It would save me from having to fab up the "hot" side.

You're going to be looking at a twin turbo setup to get these numbers....

you could always build a traditional underhood setup

There are plenty of single mustangs making that kind of power, I will be using a .70 compared to most's .76, but it will be within reach. The big #'s will be for the 1/4 mile, with the race gas and water/meth hooked up, I want around 500-550 for the street tune.

The problem there is my space, I'm 4x4, and would like to keep my a/c, so a manifold flip is about out of the question, and then there is finding a hole to run my 3" downpipe through. But If i can get it figured out then it will be under hood, I would love to see pics of someone's underhood setup though.

mine is remote mount but underhood.

makes no sense im sure.

the only thing i dont like about my kit is that since the pipes are below the frame... it sux because my truck is lowered. ground clearence is an issue.

for a stock height ride or higher its more than perfect.

send a pm if u want to see some pics.

Makes perfect sense, I was looking at possible mounting it in the front bumper, but once again, can't find anywhere to run that downpipe. But I still can't PM, but send some to my email if you don't mind. joshbramac@yahoo.com
