Boost Question

I am currently running an n/a 4.6L.
Can a low boost (psi) turbo be introduced to the system without engine modification, i.e. heads, shorter rods, etc.?

yes.

how many miles do you have on ur truck?

my truck is turbocharged, its an all stock block. but i have a 4.2l v6.

i made a thread in this section of the forum its called

'those with stock blocks and boost, post here' or something along those lines.

read that one.

you'll see that tons of folks here have some sort of forced induction on stock motors.

I have 164,000 and it runs perfect. After I have finished with the transmission (rebuild/replace) I am considering a low boost application.

When you do the tranny,,,better put some high performance parts in there or you'll be doing it again before to long.

Which leads to my next question. I felt that a transgo shift kit would serve me fine. I am talking minimal boost here. Something to aid the low end. I do not "Race" my truck or drive it hard. That is just embarrassing. But I do haul a lot of stuff a 6 to ten times a year on camping trips (3000 lbs) through the Texas hill country. I tend to keep it around 65 when hauling. I have a tranny cooler and an oil cooler installed on the vehicle right now. I recently replaced the fan clutch and she runs super cool.
The 3.08 is killing me and I have been traveling too much for the past 6 months to get her swapped. I have to go out of town for a two weeks next month so I am dropping her off to get the 3.73s installed.
I may completely decide against a boost application if the 3.73s feel good enough.
I am open to any knowledge and tips you care to share.

The gears are the best bet, and may do enough.. Are you sure that you have 308's?

Yes I am familiar with all the specs on my baby. She has been faithful and never left me stranded. I am not sure how many 2000's shipped with the 4.6L/3.08 combo. It is not a good combo in any situation, highway or around town. Sure I am sitting at 1700 on the tach doing 70 mph, however the truck is making zero power in that range and if there is a head wind or a noticeable grade, she is out of overdrive and chugging away to maintain 70. According to the calculator I have, 3.73s with my 30 inch tires put me at 2173 on the tach at 70 mph. I have tried this by turning off the OD and cruising at 60ish to get the same RPM. The truck has much more pull with minimal throttle angle and there is no drone from the exhaust so it should be a good switch. Granted there is considerably less drag at 60 as opposed to 70, however even at 70 with OD off she pulls and maintains speed so much better. I am looking forward to the change.
