supercharger noob...questions!

supercharger noob...questions!

So i know basically nothing about a supercharger, chip, etc. I've been told that they're great on diesel trucks but not so good on gas trucks. Is this true? Also what would one do on a 05 FX4 w/ 6" suspension on 37's? Thanks and sorry for the basic questions.

A chip on a gas truck is only going to yield 20-45 horsepower basically. Depending on the brand of tuner, or the custom shop that does the tunes... A diesel on the other hand can benefit gains from up to 200-250hp depending on the chip, and if the chip is stacked with another chip (only diesels can do this). Are you running gears with your 37's? If not I would highly recommend using 4.56 gears for more low end power and take off. On superchargers if you plan on doing this you need a roots or twin screw type such as the roush, whipple, or magnacharger. Superchargers also come in centrifugal type, (such as the procharger or vortech) but for your application with those huge tires it will take longer to spool up... And about a gas tuner... It/s nice to have so you can change settings for larger tires or a gear swap, so your speedo and odometer is correct. And also so your shift points are correct. I think I have covered everything pretty well... If not there is alot of good info on this site, and alot of good guys that can help you out. Let me know if you have any questions!

4.56 or 4.88 gears is the first thing I'd do if I were you...I'd go 4.88 personally.

With 37's, re-gearing will give you a much more significant and noticeable jump in performance than any other bolt-on modification (unless you consider a supercharger a bolt-on ).

thanks guys i was already re-gearing to 4.88 soon. I was just curious about this stuff

u must know nothing about superchargers lol... no offence... Diesels do not have superchargers.

Last I heard, Detroit deisel was still building the old 2 stroke deisels for marine and industrial apps. Those old 2 strokers had superchargers on them, they came in the 53 series, 71, 92, and 149 which was the displacement in cubic inches per cylinder. If they had 6 cylinders they were called a 6-53, 6-71, 6-92, etc. Old hot rodders used to pull the blowers off of the 6-71 and 8-71 engines and adapt them to their gas motors, hence the origination of the 6-71 blowers available from BDS, weiand and others.
