Questions about supercharging my 2000 5.4

(5.4L, 4r70w, 4.56s, K&N, si/do Flowmaster, deep TCI trans pan, PML diff cover, 6" Lift, 35x12.50s, etc)

I've been looking for more power out of my 2000 F-150 and after talking with a few people, it seems that a supercharger is going to be the best route for me.

For most of its life its been used for work, i own a glass company and i use the truck for towing my cargo trailer loaded with glass so i need something reliable. The truck has around 130,000 miles - never had any issues what so ever with it. Its been taken care of, i don't beat on my trucks at all. (Its just that the truck feels like a dog compared to my 05 chipped 6.0 PSD Super-duty)

Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as a supercharger kit goes? It looks like there is a kit offered from Troyer performance, and you guys that are swapping for lightning/harley blowers. I'd rather not piece a kit together, it would be nice to buy something and not worry if i have all the correct parts, etc (if thats possible)

Thanks

I hear ya, I keep "talking" about doing one on my 2000, one day it will happen. If you like the Lightning style, keep a watch on ebay for the kits made available. They are getting hard to come by, but still bid to 1500 bucks so not a bad deal. This guy, www.madenterprise.com has the remaining pieces needed to finish the deal and can hook up with alot of other stuff too. He seems very knowledgeable on this swap. Plan then on spending 3-4 grand for this swap. I myself always liked the ATI Prochargers and am probably going that route. I'm in the midst of having my tranny rebuilt and beefed up in prep for a blower, this is another serious consideration along with supercharging. When the time comes, I'm gonna check over the engine before s-charging it, compression test etc.

With 130,000 miles I would REALLY consider a new motor or a good rebuild with forged internal parts. With 130,000 miles on a motor I can imagine that there is a small amount of oil blow by and oil vapors that are getting into you upper intake as well as the lower. Bow by occurs on alot of engines new and old and can be prevented from getting intot he intake tract with simple mods. The reason why I suggest a rebuild or new motor is I would hate to see someone spend alot of money on a poweradder and then destroy their engine. It is something to think about.

I had actually appointed a guy to rebuild my motor (was going to rebuild it with performance stuff), but after talking with several "Ford Guys" (friends of mine) they had explained to me that the 5.4 is a very complicated engine and to NOT let just any mechanic "rebuild it" They explained to me that its not like a chevy 350 where the tolerances are measured with simple hand tools and gauges, you need special equipment, etc (Thats why these engines are so good & last so long). They also mentioned that some Ford Techs wont even touch this motor because of its complexity.

With that said, when this motor goes i'll most likely look into a new crate 5.4 replacement.

But for now i'd like more power.

On a side note, could my motor be replaced with a new lightning crate motor? Would it just plug and play or is there more to it than that such as splicing wires, etc?

You could use the Lightning long block and just reuse you intake and other parts. I don't think that there is a whole lot involved other than you may need to swicth the PCM out to a Lightning but with the proper tuning you can use your factory PCM and be fine. True on the motor being a bit more involved with a rebuild but these motors are ver effecient and do have a long life span if properly taken care of and maintained.

In theory i shouldn't have any issues installing a supercharger if this motor is built so good then, correct?

Well obviously something was wrong if that happened. I've had this truck for over 8 years and 130,000 + miles with regular service and haven't had a single issue.

Back on topic, are there any other kits available for the 5.4 2v?

Thanks.

I installed my Lightning/HD supercharger at 90,000 miles. Now have 115,000 with no problem. If you go thsi way be careful not to buy just a supercharger, you need a set up that inculdes from the intake all the way through the throttlebody. The you still need more parts. Thats were MAD and the NLOC and NHTOC forums come in. Believe I saw a complete L engine not to long ago. Once you get blown, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

You can get a Procharger.

But if I relied on a vehicle for my profession, I wouldn't mod it. Just my opinion.

Try to find a kit like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...166485613&rd=1
Mike has everything else you would need. http://www.madenterprise.com/scparts.htm
You'll need a heat exchanger and pump. + a tune for your computer.
